: Sammy case behind a 2wd Sidekick Tranny

I've searched here and numerous other forums and cannot find what I'm looking for, yet I know this has been done.

I'd like to see pics of a sammy tcase behind a sidekick/tracker/escudo/vitara 2wd transmission (5 speed prefered) I'd rather see how it works in a sidekick, but a samurai setup will be informative as well.

I'd specifically like to know what is used to mate them with minimal driveline vibration. I understand the concepts used, but have not seen any first hand.

I'd also like to know whay no one offers a kit for this, as it solves the high range gearing issues that sidekicks face. I know about dual cases, but I'd rather keep the rear shaft as long as possible.

Thanks :mr-t:

i dont have any pics but i ran that exact setup in my old sidekick. I basically made a bucket for the case and made a 5 inch intermediate shaft. its a long setup even with the shortest inter. shaft, this was in a 2dr. I now have a 4.3 with dual toy cases and its a shorter setup then the 2wd and sami case. its pretty easy to put it all together just gotta mount the sami case. I had it clocked straight up and down so both outputs were in the centre of the truck, i dont think it was good for the oil circulation though.Oh i was using a double cardan toy shaft in the rear and i had zero vibes.

Awesome! That's what I want to know.

How do you make the intermediate shaft?

What Spline count are the respect inputs and outputs?

I can't imagine it being difficult to make an oil pump setup for the tcase.

I'll check out those yota axles.

What gearing (Diff and case Hi&Lo) and tires dide you have?

I put a 5sp tranny from a '93 Tracker into my samurai. To keep the t-case in the stock location this is what my intermediate shaft looks like:

If it got aligned well, you could take the "shaft" out, and just use a ujoint to join the slip yoke and the flange together, moving the sami t-case forward some. The Tracker driveshaft used the same ujoints as the sami intermediate shaft, so that made that easier.

Would it be possible to fit them together with just 1 u-joint? or would it be too tight?

I take it you are running the 2wd tranny?

Two of my biggest concerns with this mod are:

-Vibration
-Keeping the transfer case as close to the tranny as possible.

Mine would be in a sidekick, so using stock tcase xmember is not a concern.

yes, you can join the slip yoke and the flange with a single ujoint.
Vibration is the one thing I don't care for with the 2wd tranny. It seems with the rubber mount so far below the output shaft, the tranny moves a whole lot. I was thinking of making a mount like the Yota guys use on their transfer cases, but that's the only idea I've had.

So, you are having some vibrations with this setup? Could it maybe come from your intermediate shaft?

What setup do the yota guys use? Isn't there just one crossmember under the tcase?

I'd be really interested to see how you have everything mounted.

I'm using all the stock Sami mounts for the t-case and transmission. Just had to drill some new holes for the transmission mount to bolt the crossmember.
The intermediate shaft is at an odd angle, but I don't think it's from that. The whole tailhousing moves around a lot (not that there is much room on my rig)

this is how i mated two t cases, with this intermediate shaft

Makoy,

That's kinda what I was thinking. Do you experience any vibration?

using a single u joint probably wouldn't provide any benefit over your setup, huh?

no vibrations experienced yet...i had a machine shop do it, so it's a bit centered and aligned :D i didnt bother using u-joints because i find it hard to align :)

I like what you've done, Makoy. So it's just a falnge splined for the tracker output and then the two flanges bolted together?

I guess the only thing left would be to make a crossmember that supported it correctly?

Can the stock sammy bushings be utilized?

I was hoping to make a 3/8" plate crossmember with mounts for the sammy case.

yes, you can still utilize the sami bushes, as long as you make respective brackets for them...i think you've already seen my cross member for the sami tcase on the other forum...i only used 1/4" thk ms plate

Ah, yes. You had the dual cases behind the kick tcase. Is that the only location that the sammy cases is supported?

Since it is divorced, I'd like it pretty stable. WIth a married tcase, if the mount breaks, you get some vibration and clunking. If one of those bushings fail on a divorced tcase, I imagine the whole case would want to rotate. OWW!!
