: Fire Extinguisher mounts?
I just picked up a couple of small rechargeable fire extinguishers they came with a cheesy plastic clamp system to hold them in. I'd maybe trust them in the trunk of my car, but not on the ftoy.
Whats everyone doing for quick and easy to remove mounts that'll take a good roll without losing them?
YELLOWHOBO 05-17-2007, 07:11 PM Pook, The trick is to not roll!!!!
Alot of guys are using the mounts with the steel band and buckle. Mount the bracket to your rig however you want and the band holds the extinguisher in.
my bracket came with the extingusher from kragen. its metal and works good.
benttoy 05-17-2007, 08:02 PM We use the plastic mounts with no problems
I guess I'm going to have to mount the plastic bracket to something and give it some test pulls. I occasionally get off balance. :homer:

Dont we all :D we,ve been over about 10 times and have never had a problem just mount them to a flat surface
desertoy 05-18-2007, 08:44 AM the Marlin rig has 2 extinguishers mounted to the x-tube with a normal metal bracket. I was just thinking last weekend how I was supprised that they have never came loose.

You're so getting beaned in the head with one of those now that you said that:laughing::laughing:
Kyron 05-18-2007, 12:40 PM Not on a F-toy but I use the plastic straps but then put a couple wraps of electric tape around the whole thing........
I figure the electrical tape will be easily ripped when things might go boooom :)

mtbrjon 05-19-2007, 07:55 AM I use the metal strap/latch type. With no problems so far.
What i'd like to find is a fire extinguisher that the handle doens't rattle on. Two of those things rattling behind your head will drive you nuts. I've wrapped a couple big rubber bands around the handles and that helps but the sun does them in pretty quick.
FYRDUDE 05-19-2007, 12:40 PM I've found that duck tape does the trick with the rattle. Also, seen fire extinguishers duck taped to roll bars. Pretty funny actually
I bought some rubber latch straps similar to what people use for hood hold downs, and a few of the pull tight load straps, will be doing some testing.
Going to try to make and some mounts this week before Goldendale.
Tim Florian 05-19-2007, 11:03 PM I've got mine held in with just electrical tape (4 or 5 raps). That is how the guys I got my rig from had them and I thought it was chessy at first, but it holds up great (I've been over a few times) and we have had to get to them in a hurry and they came right off.

Do they stay in one spot or do they slide down ?

I have Velcro grip straps on the rollbar of my FJ40, and when properly attached, they are very difficult to slide. If they were inclined to slide, you could just put a single wrap of duct tape beneath the straps. :)

That is so "Jeep Rubicon", any true Toyota guy knows electrical tape is the way to go!

You keep using that electrical & duct tape, and I'll take the practical approach.
