: Military and CA AW/gun laws?

So here the deal....

Does anybody know what the deal is with Military members being stationed in CA that have lawfully acquired so called AW's? I'm only asking this because it's Saturday and attorneys that I found don't work on Saturday.

I do not understand if I legally purchased these firearms, that I would be required to sell them if the Military is “making me” move back to CA. If this is not Infringed I don’t know what is…. Esp. since I’m serving.

I have checked the DOJ website and can't find dick:shaking:

My wife was active navy and a CA resident. When we were getting close to PCSing from HI San Diego popped up as an option for her. I contacted CA and asked about our guns. This was 2001.
She had a hi-cap pistol (Which she originally purchased in CA in the early 90s) and I had the AR. I also explained that I was in the HI Army NG and was on the States Rifle Team, that was my reason for having an AR.
The response I got was that we could not bring the mags for the pistol, had to get 10rds for it. And I could NOT bring the AR. We couldn't register it and bring it or anything.

Gotta love Cali. One of the main reasons why I'm hestitating on putting Travis or Beale on my dream sheet. It would be nice to be that close to the Rubicon. :mad3:

BOHICA... I dont see much likelyhood of CA taking any exception to you because of your military status. Too bad though...

We really liked WA. Awesome Land Rover Club. Lots of shooting and off roading. We lived in Silverdale, not Bremerton. Only suck was my job was at Lewis. When they started construction on the bridge I started working 4am-noon just to avoid the traffic.

I was stationed in CA a few years back, yes I have many weapons, and yes I liked it there. CA is great if you love to shoot, and love the outdoors. I am in the Army, and where I was stationed there are tons of places to drive and shoot. Just to drop you all a little info on the topic, not from the barracks lawyer side, but strait from the regs::stirthepot:

This information comes from this site. http://www.losangeles.af.mil/ABG/JA/firearms_law.doc

Military Exemption - The DOJ allows active duty military members to apply for a DOJ Assault Weapons Permit during the course of permanent stationing in California. DOJ Business Rules, § 2.00, 15 February 2001. Active duty personnel wishing to keep their assault weapons during their stay in California must submit a completed application, two completed ten-print fingerprint cards, a copy of the official orders, military identification and a $73 application fee. All active duty members must register the firearm within 90 days. Permits must be renewed annually, until such time the permit holder’s active military duty in California is terminated. Members must keep the license on their person at all times when using the assault weapon, or at the place where the firearm is kept when not in use. Additional information is available in the Legal Office.

So in saying this, you just have to get the standard "FD 030 Dangerous Weapons License/Permit Application and Live Scan Request Form" and submit it. Either way, I would still take this information into your MP/SP/BP what ever branch you are in show it to them and varify that if you bring your weapon onto base to register it you will not get thrown into the brig.

I felt the same way about Cali when I first got there, but then after a few years of all the variety it has to offer It really grew on me. That is quite a feat coming from a South Dakota boy.:usa:
