What front axle, knuckles?
Paul
sorry dude i totaly forgot to mention my set-up
okay well its a d60 with king pin,i plan on running humvee rims since its a full width 60 the bs on the rims will bring the width in but....there maybe a problem with my lock-outs sticking way out if so i will have them (the rims) modified herte locally no biggy.but i am going to be running 1 ton brakes all around and the humvee rims are a beautiful thing...
so this leaves me with steering...
parts mike uses the Y set-up and rockstomper and tons of other guys use cross over or arm to arm style.
i do know this i want to use tie rods ends and go with a ram...
thanks guys for you opinons....

Hi Shawn:
I would drill out your knuckels to .75" and flip the tie rod to the top of the knuckle. I would also get a high steer arm for the pass side and run the drag link to this. I don't know how big of a tire you want to run, but you can run 1.25" .250 wall dom (what I used to run 35-37" tires) or 1.50" .250 wall dom. I paid about $4.50 a foot for the 1.25", which might be a little too much (I hear 3-4 bucks a foot is about the average). Get the weld-in inserts from Tony at www.rockequipment.com He can sell you the heims and spacers also.
I built two draglinks, two tie rods for about $300 worth of materials. You will have to pay $100+ for the high steer arm and then someone to put studs in your knuckle.
Good luck dude. And finish that damn jeep, would ya!

HAHAHHAAHAH! thanks SEAN well hey rome wasn't built in a day .i just wanna do shit right you know.well as far as building up rod or drag links not a problem at all its knowing what style to run and whose arms to use .i will definatley go with studs in the passanger side as the driverside has them already.the million dollar questions 1-whose arms(parts mike, dynacrap, wagoner, avalanche, rockstomper etc.)
and
2-what style (draglink into tie rod or drag link to hight steer arm)
my heep will be ready soon and as soon as it is yall will see pics of it...
anyone have any ideas for me.......
so no one is going to help me here huh
okay then how about telling me or posting up some pics of your steering set-ups
thanks guys

What are you guys talking about with this? If it's a king-pin 60 and you want studs you just buy them (1/2" fine thread on mine) and screw them in:confused:
I use cross-over with the Tie-rod in the factory location. When I taco it I'll go to full high steer. My draglink goes to an arm that is pre-drilled to accept the tie-rod also so I just need a second arm and a tie-rod when I switch. Using the factory tie-rod for a while also saved me some money. When you run the drag-link to the tie-rod and have an improper design you can have interference while the suspension cyles and you steer. I wanted to avoid this incase I set it up wrong so I chose the separate tie-rod mount option fo the future.
I used 1" round stock for my drag-link (and will for my tie-rod also). It is just threaded on the ends to accept Ford 1-ton rod ends with those couplers for adjustment.

On my D44, I went with a single steering arm on the passenger side, and a crossover tie rod on top of the knuckle. All one ton TREs. Here's one pic, the rest are at http://www.jeepshots.com/shots/projects/steering/
