: TJ Dana 30 Shafts in a YJ

I’ve been reading about swapping TJ Dana 30 shafts in a YJ. I had a couple questions; I want to make sure I get the right thing, I searched but didn’t find what I was looking for.

I currently have Alloy’s up front with an ARB and the disconnect eliminated. I retained the same stock spline count so I could get junkyard shafts as spares.

So what am I looking for, do years matter? Could I use XJ shafts? Will this still work even tho I have alloys? Since I want to keep everything the same to make trail fixes easier will XJ or TJ shafts have the same U-joints I have currently?

Perhaps its just me but you stated that you have the disconnect eliminated, are you running a 1 solid passenger side axle shaft now? As long as you are running the same splines ones from either an XJ or TJ should work. I would make sure they have the larger u-joints in them. I believe they are the 760x's or the 297x's. Someone correct me if Im wrong. HTH!

Yep one solid passenger,

Didnt know if Alloys had a larger diameter shaft than TJ's or XJ's? also do you know what size u-joints they stick in Alloys, are they the same as stock?

Do not forget to have a seal installed on the pass. side of the carrier, or all your lube will get out, or water will get in....

Sounds like your already setup dude

The only purpose of the "TJ shaft" mod is to eliminate the disconnect

if you want a bigger sline then you need to install a Super 30 kit

That said your ring & pinion is already weaker then your 27 spline alloy shafts so the only true upgrade for your current setup is going to a built D44 HP front IMHO

TJ's should work fine, XJ's some year will work. Since you are not doing it from scratch, not a iggie. I replace mine on my YJ with TJ shafts, and had to use different seals, but that was about it, not that hard.

Why do you want to swap out your alloy shafts for stock? Doesn't make sense, to me. I doubt you can buy an alloy shaft for a D30 without getting the larger U-joint, and that would be the only reason to make the swap.

I'm just looking for TJ shafts as trail spares for my Alloys, not to replace the Alloys. I'm looking to do a crazy build on a TJ in about 3 years when the wife finishes her doctorate, that'll give me some time to learn what I really wanna build and save up cash. but for now I’m just gonna wheel this till it breaks.

I'm looking to find a junk yard part as trail spares, something i can just swap right in with out messing around with the seals and junk, any ideas?

And for anyone who cares Alloy e-mailed me back, they said the u-joints the sell with the Dana 30 kit is a Spicer 5-760x
