We are doing a mini-truck disc brkae conversion on my friends 69 FJ40. It is going well except the brake lines do not match up. The FJ has the older 9mm (i think) brake lines and the new calipers use 10mm (i think) brake lines. What should we do to fix this? Is there an adapter that goes from 9 to 10?

9mm x 1.0 pitch is a discontinued fitting. You will have to get a die and clean up an old fitting then flare it onto a new tube w/ a 10mm on the other side. If you have the time, replace the entire fitting system. The rear brake cylinder female ends can be bought from Specter and maybe Toyota as well. Any other later model Toyota car/truck should have the needed donor unions.
Although I don't know the part number, I have seen brand new Toyota brake lines that were 7 feet long (bent into a U for shipment) which would cover the 5 foot limit found at Napa.

If you have the lines that go to the mini use them. Cut off the cruisers hard line end, and get a new one from autozone or wherever that will work with the mini line. put the new end on the line flare it and your ready to go.

Thanks for the info guys. I wasnt sure if you could put the 9mm and 10mm ends on the same size hard line. So I guess we will just cut the 9mm end off the factory hard line and flare on a 10mm end. We dont want to replace the lines right now. We just want it back on the road so we can get back to four-byin.

For the time being, we are still gonna use the stock 69 master cylinder. Since this is a single master cylinder do we need to remove a residual valve or anything to work with the disc brakes?

Yes there should be a valve in the master behind the adaptor where the brake line screws into the master if its anything like my 72

I dont think its the same as a 72. Didnt they switch to a dual, master cylinder w/ booster in 71?
