I'll be crap! i just had this same freakin thought today, but...... my idea wuz just the oposit, i have set of 4" lift springs that i am going to do spring over with, and if they are to tall(i know they will be), i will put them in my HARBOR FRIEGHT pipe bender and flaten them out a little bit:smokin:

A nice roller would do a bit better job IMO.

I know you can re-arch springs, but how are you going to flatten them? Aren't they designed to go flat under load, then spring back???

You guys are funny...

There is a machine that does this, i don't know what it's called but i have seen them before. You need to go to a spring shop, and have them do what you need. You are supposed to heat the steel almost to the point of melting before you try to bend it, otherwise it will just spring back. Spring steel is a lot harder than average plate, and has a much better "memory" for obvious reasons. I seriously doubt you will be able to arch or de-arch any springs by using a tube bender...

I doubt a bender will do anythig except put the spring though a "cycle"
You can re-arch springs by taking the pack apart and drawing each leaf over the horn of an anvil with a hammer.
Temporary fix at best though.

There is a good shop where I live that does this as well as other things. They dont recomend it but they will do it. I know a guy or two that have had it done by them for more arch. They do it properly and it still sags back to how it was within a couplla months...

I dont think a bender is gonna do anything either. I have seen the machine they use and it aint nothin like a bender.

i did this once a few years back to a set of springs i had, i just wanted about an 1" or so lift out of them. i took a 15" rim and cut it in half with a torch. then welded a piece of 1/2" plate to the rim i just cut in half i then took some chain and grade 5 bolts and made a sling type things with the bolts going under the spring and the pieces of chain fairly taught when i started putting pressure on it.

Oh yeah, this was using a hilift jack. i welded some "feet" on the bottom of the rim so it would stand up on it's on and all i had to do was crank the handle on the jack. worked just like i thought it would. i ended up getting about an 1" or so lift out of the deal ... BUT ... it didn't last but about 2 weeks and it was gone .... :(
