ya york, I can get you one for $25 but it is not aluminum. if you go electric you better not use a tank. it will just take that much longer to air up

uhm, no. I don't agree with this - and I've had the electric compressor with tank. What about you?

If you do this, you have to use a chuck that allows air to escape when not airing up a tire - or shut off the compressor.

I've used electric compressor and an air tank - you simply air up the tank *before* you get to the point when your going to air up, and it quickly fills the first tire.

Between fills, ie, the time you mess around with valve stem caps, moving to the next tire, checking tire pressure, etc, etc, you leave the compressor running. It charges the tank when it's not filling the tire. When you start to fill the tire, it then uses

is this YORK compressor Belt driven?? or can i get a 12 Volt version, i cant use the belt because there is no room to mount it, i already mounted a Alternater (1961 4cyl ), is there a 12 volt version that is not belt driven?

It is belt driven but there are 2 body styles, most run the full size 210R but there is also the SC209, almost the same displacement but alot smaller.

Here is a picture of one on a late model Jeep 2.5L

They put out about as much as 2 really high dollar electric units (~$300).

I have seen someone convert one to 12V using a winch motor, but I really dont' think it would be worthwhile.

have you considered co2? my 20# bottle will fill my 38s from 4# to street pressure at least 20 times before it needs to be filled. will run air tools too. just another option.

i read somewhere where you could get an 12-volt york, but it was high dollar.it looked like it used a starter moter to drive it.i think i seen it on off-road.com.

You can get 12 Volt york compressors, from oasis off road. Its basically a york with a motor attached to it. costs about 700 bucks though. Id do with an engine driven york, and save a little bit of money.

I got a Question. I just bought a york (1/2 off at pic and pull) and it is need of some serious cleaning. How the hell do i get the clutch off? The damn bolt that holds it on spins the clutch, so i cant loosen the bolt... also, there is only one wire coming from the compressor. is this right? thx

ya one wire just put 12 volts to it, and use an impact gun left or right thread???? then you use a pusher bolt to force it off. how much did you pay?????????

I just picked one up at the junk yard cheap too!

If I run 12 volts to the wire when its sitting on the work bench should it run?

Does it need a ground to the body to run?

Had it clamped in a vice with power and it did not run.

Little help needed :D

my plan

I got my old mans old compresor it's a 15 galon tank with a duel piston compressor that is continuas run (ment for a gas Briggs and Stratton) I plan on running it off of a PTO off the tranny or x-fercace

just food for thought

Highlander yes the York has to be grounded to work just run a - wire and wrap it around a bolt hole on the compressor then energize the compressor wire with the +and the clutch should grab.
I also ran an electric with a 3 gallon tank and having the tank dose help but still not even close to having a York running of the engine.

Are there Yorks available with serpentine pully setups in yards? Which vehicles/years?

Buy a power tank ! They are only $ 9 bucks to fill and will fill 10X the tires in a 1/4 of the time, it would take with a york. I had a york on my Cruiser and just took it off and replaced it with a PowerTank and plumped it into my old air system. As far as the 12 volt Compressors they are crap ! They take to long and loud and a pain in the ass.

Note affilated with Power Tank either

ok, i got the compressor cleaned up and I tested it and it works. No, what do you guys think is the best way to mount it? I have the v belt clutch but my engine belt is serpintine. I dont want to shell out 110$$ for a new clutch, so what do you guys think of the v/serpentine pully combo for the alternator? good?

thx...

I've seen a lot of talk about using yorks, but what about other normal AC compressors. When i dropped in my 4.3 I got rid of my AC stuff but have the stock 98 compressor. how well will this work? i'm thinkin I'll hook up a filter to the inlet and a hose goin to a tank under the truck with a pressure cut off, then run lines to the bumpers, or possibly even make the nerfs into tanks.

I think the bad part with the standard ac unit is the maintenance.....It uses the freon as a lubricant for the pump....
Where as the Yorks have an oil resivor.

you can use about any ac compressor but yorks are better, due to the oil issue. the cylindrical ones need an oiler on the intake to allow for lubrication of the compressor. you should use a non petroleum base oil like mineral oil. you can get mineral oil from the makeup section of any drug store. maybe ask your wife? i think they use that stuff to clean off that crap they put on thier faces that end up all over our shirts when dancing.......:roxy:
