I have a 92 yj wrangler and am looking for ideas (most compatibale) to upgrade the front axle. I have already put a 8.8 ford in the rear with all the goodies but am not sure what year D44 out of what would have a drivers side drop and come close to the width of the rear 8.8 (which is about 59"). Any ideas/suggestion would be helpful.

mid 80's grand wagoneers have driver drop D44's just be sure to avoid the vacuum disconect ones. If there is more than just the vent tube going into the housing avoid it. It's a little wider than the 8.8, and also has 6 lugs so not sure how you'd get around that but i'm sure it's possible.

just swap hubs form another d44 with the same lug pattern as the rear.

I wasn't sure if they had 5x4.5 or not. I know there's 5x5.5 on some of them.

I don't think you can go to 5x4.5 on a waggy 44. The hub is to big.

i would use adapters in the rear or step up to the Super 88 which gets you 5x5.5. It would be way more complicated trying to change the front.

I put a Dana 44 in the front of my '91 YJ. It is originally off of a '78 F-250 with driver drop. It mounted up just fine I only had to elongate the spring purch bolt holes about 1/4" with my Dremel. I then converted it to high steer. I am running a 14 bolt rear and I drilled the front 8 lug hubs out to run 9/16" studs. I wanted the front and rear to match. It was pretty easy and I like the width being a bit wider than stock for my 37's. You can check out some of my pics of my Jeep build on www.4x4n.com if interested. Check out my pics under Bigwheelz.

You can do a super 88 in the rear for 5x5.5 and Ford 44 outters on the waggy axle. Its in here somewhere... he used a waggy front axle
