Ok so I know 4.88's are the lowest I can get for my dana 30, with a r/p that small is strength goin to be an issue with such low gears. Tires will be 33's, the axle is a non-disco, hp

Is it locked?

Are you heavy on the gas?

What kind of wheeling do you do?

Are you lucky?

I have been running 4:56 gears with 33 inch tires on my locked D30 for a while now with zero issues. I think you will have axle shaft issues long before the R&P become an issue. Go for it.

X2 if anything think about 'molly shafts, but- once you start dumping that cash into a d30 you may have been better off just grabbing a d44 or a 9inch...

Yea, strength is going to be an issue but like mentioned above other items are going to probably break first.
Your going to be in for the cost of new axles along with the gear plus you need for cash for the rear gears too. Plus no disconnects. So I wouldn't do it.
IMHO
4:1 gears for the Transfer case is a better way to go for off-road use.
OR
A Dana 44 or 9" like mentioned above is a better way to go too.

I'm still running a Dana 30 but I'm REAL easy on the skinny pedal but when it breaks it's going to be replaced.

Good luck

I'm running 4.88's, 35" tires, and chromo shafts. My ring and pinion went bang last weekend, but I'm not easy on the skinnny pedal. I'm upgrading to an HP30 to get a little more ring strength. If i had the $$, I would go with a 9" front end.

Should be fine with that set up though, like said before more likely to break a shaft.

I have the Aussie in my D30. So far, it has proven to be tough a nails. Great customer service. Get the T-shirt for an extra $10.00
