: Is this normal? Flywheel/Crank

Well. I was having clutch issues. I knew I had an oil leak that was getting into the bellhousing. SO I figured rear main seal. Well, the back two bolts on the bellhousing were loose, so it appears to have been leaking past the oil pan there.

I looked up and noticed this. The pic is of the end of crankshaft and the flywheel (258). Anything odd about that? Isn't the flywheel supposed to be flush with the crankshaft?

Yeah....what the hell:confused: It looks shimmed, but why and with what?
I wonder if this was somebodys twisted attempt at fixing a contact problem with the starter and flywheel ringgear.

I take it you're talking about the dirty/rust colored band on the crank flange? You should clean it better and maybe take a scaper to it and see if it is a seperate piece, or just discolored or machined different. I don't see a problem as long as the flywheel is tight, the starter meshes good, and the clutch works correctly. If that crank flage were thinner, your flywheel bolts would contact the rear main cap.

Actually, nothing wrong. I had an oil leak because somebody didn't bother to use the valley seal in the rear. My clutch issues appear to be due to the oil leak. New gaskets...no more leaks

That gap is actually between the rear main cap and the end of the crankshaft. I thought the flywheel was loose from the crank, but if it were that loose...I'd have more than just "some clutch issues". After I pulled the cap you could plainly see the crank and flywheel.
