My entire exhaust is completely stock ('85 4runner) and I am thinking my cat is probably restricting a lot of flow. I am planning on cutting the exhaust off after the header and running it straight into a $20 cheapy autozone muffler, positioning it so that the muffler will be right above the tranny crossmember. This would only be temporary until I get a new exhaust, was hoping this would give me a little bit of extra power till then. I just smogged it about 6 mos. ago, so I should be good there for a while. Does this retain enough backpressure for the engine to run properly? Anyone done this? I need power till i get my gears! :smokin:

if you happen to remember geigers setup on that DOA motor with basically the header feedign the cat feeding the muffler, that's what i've done on my truck. it ends right at the back of the doors. my truck runs fine, most of the time, and i gained some power. hope that helps ya out some.
