Not slippery at all. Virgin rocks are tight. :D

This portion of the trail is just a small loop covering only about 400 ft. Took me and James (homegrowntoy) about 50 minutes each to get my short wheelbase and his Toy through. Thanks to all who were there to move rock and spot.

That little trail section was Wicked!

That's just a taste of what's to come. James ( Homegrowntoy) was only the 4th person to run it. Todd (TDW ) was the 3rd. The rocks are nice and sticky and huge, I don't think So Cal has anything over this area, I was amazed. Another longer trail is being planned a bit lower than this one, it's going to blow some minds and change some attitudes about Oregon rocks, especially in the Coast Range. I have pics of James but didn't have my camera w/me when Todd was running it. I think Jesse got some, I'll try and get them from him and post them up.

The trail is not officially open yet. We met up w/the OHV coordinator and he was interested in doing some "wheelbase" testing". Todd and James were more than happy to "test" is out. I wanted to but we were there almost 3 hours total and I figured everyone was getting ready to do some more trials rather than watch and spot. Maybe next time. Still haven't had a 106" wheelbase through yet :p . Jame's is about 115" and Todd is whatever a stock ( or close ) TJ wheelbase is. The other 2 were a CJ and antother long wheelbase Toy.

Time to start on the rock buggies:p :p :p

when are they supposed to be officially open. I might be able to bring the wifes blazer up and test the 105-106 range for ya but i have got to get the 60 in the front first and the shackle flip on the rear done also.

They're trying to get one of them opened this year. I think that the one we were on s/b opened before too long but the longer proposed trail is the one that they're trying to get done this year.

Most of the work out there is volunteer so if you hear of any work parties feel free to donate some time.

There is a rock section similar to the one pictured but huge. I haven't seen it yet but I've heard it's about the area of 6 football fields. Unfortunatly it's owned by Stimpson Lumber, just adjacent to the State land. They are very opposed to any off road recreation on they're land. I understand that a buy or swap might be being considered but I wouldn't count on it.

Still this will open up a whole new experience to those who thought they had conquered all the TSF has to offer. They are thinking of making some prerequisits to run these trails, like dual lockers, min tire size, max width, winch requirements etc.. so not everyone will be set up to try them out. Some parts are very narrow, Todd got up against trees a few times, we pushed him away from others.

Ian, dave and my self went up and ran the loop it was a good. Ian and my self have around 114 wheel base so some of the tight turns are a little off camber. All of us made it throught, but dave lost an axle from his warn birf elim kit but had the axle out and had him through in a couplr of hrs. was a good time
sorry todd I forgot to call. but there will be next weekend.

attn.bigblaze It would be interesting to see how a blazer would do turning the tight corners. since I even get into my cab in some spots. may be time to do that yj project   :D

So James,

You guys ran it again on Sunday? Cool, now I really need to do it. Did Dave have a spare or was he runnin' in 3 wheel drive to get out?

Time for the Super Birfs.

I can't go out next weekend 'cause the kids graduating and we have to do the party and stuff.

I'm really likin' those MT/R's, I don't see needing those stinkin' boggers anymore;) Especially after seeing Jesse's 37's strugglin for tracion where we were just walkin. I'm surprised I wasn't rubbin more than I was but I do need to do a little trimmin'.

I got some decent ones but the ones Todd posted are probably better. I only got shots of you, didn't have the camera when Todd was going through.

I'll look through them tonight and post at least a couple. I think Jesse got some more, I'll have to see if he'll send me some.

I've got a CD for you with all the pictures Craig took a few weeks ago but keep forgetting to bring it.

Wifes Blazer :) too funny! Trying to get my wife to let me put 33's on her 79 with a 4 inch lift. My big reason is the 3.73 gears. I need to get it down to a little more reasonable RPM on the hwy. The mtor is really wound out on the 31's at 75mph (avg speed on the hwy here :) ) Her comment is "we already have one trail pig (My 75 on 35's :) ) My truck will run just fine down most of the trails at tellico I don't want it lifted" LOL. I think it's because she's short. She stands 5ft and it's a climb for her into the 75. Hell her 79 has running board on it right now to make it easier to load the baby. I keep trying too clip a curb and rip them off :)

Raptor
06-04-2002, 07:35 AM
There are a lot of trails in Oregon.

I live in NW Oregon so I wheel at the TSF mostly. The TSF is, Tillamook State Forest and there is a large mapped OHV area out there. There are also lots of unmapped trails in the southern part of the forest.

Go to OOHVA.?? (either org or com I can't remember), it's the Oregon Off Highway Vehicle Association and the site contains many, if not all, the OHV areas in Oregon and lists the current conditions, maps, facilities and any pertinant info regarding trail closures, openings or concerns about trail conditions and impacts from the environmental front.

I just heard from Roger Crystal, he says "Pleas, please, please, stay off that trail for a couple weeks til it is offically opened".

There is a chance that the ODF could get pissed if there is too much traffic on it before it's official.

I'm glad to see new trails being opened in the Northwest as opposed to being closed. Powerline, up above Naches, is rumored to be closing down next year if not sooner. Seems some of the deep mud holes are down to the powerline.

More coordination is need with ORV officials like you have displayed. There oughta be a 101 writeup for this!

Actually,

I was just up there and the first part is open but everything else looks permantly closed...ie huge trees fallen across the trail.

The holes are pretty big too.

Todd,

I'm cross posting this on JU, but anyway...

So thats where the bogger tracks came from...those were there before nate and I got there. I thought it was odd because your running SXs and the Toy was running MTRs....I couldn't remember seeing any boggers in the pics on POR.

The sami was runnin Cooper Re Treads of sorts. 31s at most, so I doubt it was them. Besides, like I said the boggers where there when we got there and that was well before the sami showed up.

We walked the trail and took some pics, looks damn good. Now we have something to build for out here in OR :flipoff2:

Let nate or I know when your going up next, I'd love to see you run the thing.

For these trails to be built, people must clean up after them selves.

yes raptor that was fun. But the funnier part was that my passenger that day wanted to trade me another truck and some goods for that truck and i told him he might not want it after saturday. But after seeing how good the truck wheels he still wanted it body damage and all. Of course now he has a good reason to flatbed it. I cant wait to take the burb in there and better yet the next time we go i might have af friend with me with a WHOLE burb but other that drag his tail in a few places he should make it. It will be fun to watch though. The first line i had i wanted to proceed but the cab would have probally been trash if i did so i backed up and went around that tree, really close cause it is narrow and that is when i got into driver fender and the door a little more. but heck " sheet metal can be replaced"

so, what trail is this?? Is this one of the new crusher trails? We just ran the "little crusher" this last weekend....shoved a '79 bronco through there....wasn't too bad....wasted a couple doors, but those prolly could have been avoided w/ some more patience.

so is this the new one in that series of trails? Does the one on the other side of the little road that goes to lil' crusher have a name yet?

just curious...

Yeah, on the other side of the road is Bone Crusher. That one is a lot longer than Lil Crusher. Haven't run it yet but watched a couple Toys get through the last section. I was supposed to be right behind them but I was late and had to leave early.

Next time.

so is bone crusher this new trail we're talking about?
when we showed up to lil' crusher, there were a couple jeeps on this bone crusher...one w/ a broken D35 shaft....and they lost the C-clip in the dirt.....and no spare shaft, and of course, no spare C-clip.
but of course, we had the needed parts in our group....including c-clip (act of god we accidentally had on of them)...and got them going and on their way....
one of them on boggers....???....if that means anything to ya..

Yeah, it does. That was Kurt and Mike and you were part of the 2 Big Broncos (maybe it was another group) run right? Doh..I see by you're sig that you are indeed a Big Bronco dude.

I heard all about it on the OBH list.

That's Bone Crusher. There are 2 other proposed loops going in that area also. Apparently, according to Roger Crystal, the first 2 are just a taste of what's coming w/the next trails. I helped a bit on the lower trail but haven't made it into the other area that's being looked at. There would be a lot more potential than that but Stimpson Lumber owns the land adjacent and they basically have a no recreation policy on there lands. Ian Caldwell, the TSF OHV coordinator, has toyed w/the idea of a land swap or a buy out of that land as it's really no good for logging but he doesn't really see it going anywhere so we'll have ot take what we get.

I'll be out Sat. w/the latest version of the runner and am going to attempt Bone Crusher sometime in the a.m. maybe I'll see you there.
