I was in the tire shop yesterday getting ready to order a set of 39.5 iroks and was told that the 16.5 rims i have will have a problem keeping the beads set. im wondering how big a problem this would be

also what if i just bought a set of 17x9's and bought the iroks for thos the website says there for 7x10's is it possible for the 17x9's to work

and the last question if the 16.5's are going to be a problem should i go with the 17's or 16's

plus im on a buget

thanks

That's because most 16.5" rims don't have the safety bead lip on the rim and the bead will tend to slip off at lower tire pressures. If you are going to run 16.5" rims get some bead locks, or run HMMWV rims.

Mounting a tire on a narrower than recommended rim will make the sidewall bulge out more. If they recommend a 17x10 rim, then that's what I would run.
As for rim selection, will 16" rims clear your brakes? Tires for 17" rims are usually more expensive than a similar size in the 15"/16"/16.5" flavor
