Hey Guys I got the ball roling again today, I found a 91 x cab swapped on to a 85 runner frame for 300 bucks. It is already set up for the motor and trany /tcase set up I got in the COW. It needs a littile work, mainly a few interior pieces and some finish work done to it.
My question Is how hard will it be to licence it with the whole cab frame swap? I want the x cab but If i cant licence it I wont buy it.It could be one bad ride and for the price I dont want to pass it up.
I did a search and didnt find anything I was looking for. I do live in CO. so I just need an Idea of what it is in you neck of the woods.
Thanks
Jeff

Ask a state vehicle inspector. AFAIK most stated register by the VIN number, so it's a '91 pickup. ;)

I'm sure there is a VIN # stamped on the frame, but nobody will ever look there. Insurance and stuff will look at the sticker on the inside of drivers door, and at the # on the dash. They don't need to know that its a '85 frame. if they do find out it will prolly have to be registered w/ a salvage title.

How does the current owner have the vehicle registered, as a 91 p/u ? If so there's no problem.
In my state it's insanely difficult, and expensive, to properly register a swap.

Best thing to do is contact your DMV and see what they say!!

You found Chris's old stuff eh?!
As far as registering, its a 91 PU. To make it completely legal, get it inspected. Don't work, you can make it totally legal. They check to make sure its safe, lights, good windshield(no cracks), and all the lights work. Another buddy of mine built a thing out of a blazer frame and an old, old dodge body. Lets just say some of the work is a little wierd, but its inspected and legal.

Well, lets see, Im going with KLF's 85 cab, a Budbuilt Frame (hopefully soon) and the Doors off my 85 Reg Cab. Im going to go with the vin on the cab when I register mine. I dont think anyone will notice the other differences.

Yeah I saw it at the crusier swap meet and it is what I wanted to build next so... My old 82 is to the point rust wise that I dont want to mess with it. And besides it would be a very straight swap motor/tranny/t cases wise (same crossmember and mounts and everything). Think it would fit the bill nicely, but have to find a place to stash for a while. :)
Thanks for the info
