chvyhs 05-25-2007, 03:18 PM Will it be used in competition? Will we see it at the Hammers?
MT4Runner 05-25-2007, 03:27 PM It will be the Ultimate, though!!!
Chris 05-25-2007, 03:43 PM 3RZ engine. It wont be a formula toy:shaking:
I'm pretty sure that since he's the guy that builds the chassis' AND started the class, he knows that.
NIce build.
ghettowheeler 05-25-2007, 03:47 PM wow thats going to be siiiiiiaaaaaaakkkkkkkk.
fj40forlife 05-25-2007, 04:08 PM 3 seat or 4?
mtbrjon 05-25-2007, 05:35 PM If that's the finished chassis to frame height it will be the lowest i've seen yet. Or maybe it's the solid axle frame that makes the front look so close?
Air Ride 05-25-2007, 06:20 PM It will be a 4 seater.
The classis is mounted at our usual height, bottom of the rocker even with the top of the frame.
mtbrjon 05-26-2007, 05:45 AM Guess it's just the arch of the solid axle frame looks close in the front.
Should be a sweet build. We'll keep watching.
BTW-Got the chassis parts Thursday. Fun begins again.
FYRDUDE 05-26-2007, 11:06 AM Look forward to the build. A friend of mine bought one of your 4 seaters and never finished it. With everyone fitting 4 seats in the 2 seater, wonder why he went with the 4 seater. Probably just more leg/storage room. Keep the pics. coming.:smokin:
Finally something new in the Formula sectioin.
Vortec_Cruiser 05-26-2007, 01:15 PM Look forward to the build. A friend of mine bought one of your 4 seaters and never finished it. With everyone fitting 4 seats in the 2 seater, wonder why he went with the 4 seater. Probably just more leg/storage room.
Actually, if you plan to have adults in the rear seats, you want to either have the true 4-seater (with adequate head coverage) or put an additional bar over their heads in the 2-seater. :)
benttoy 05-26-2007, 05:52 PM If its half as nice as Mikes x chassie it will without a doubt be sweet:smokin:
ghettowheeler 05-26-2007, 07:41 PM Hey Mike what do you think the wheelbase will be? I am thinkin about doin another ftoy and i am not sure if i want go with the ftoy 4 seater or the standard.
fj40forlife 05-26-2007, 10:32 PM It will be a 4 seater.
The classis is mounted at our usual height, bottom of the rocker even with the top of the frame.
seat That What i want to do. a 4 seat. but this looking arould on how to built... I want to see how this one turns out
FYRDUDE 05-28-2007, 02:18 PM Actually, if you plan to have adults in the rear seats, you want to either have the true 4-seater (with adequate head coverage) or put an additional bar over their heads in the 2-seater. :)
Definately need the "cage extension" on the 2 seat version. That's what's in my near future.
Air Ride 06-12-2007, 10:39 AM Motor trans and tcase are in.
Air Ride 06-12-2007, 10:43 AM side view
why stock motor mounts? is the tcase mount going to be solid?
Air Ride 06-12-2007, 11:12 AM They modified stock mounts.
Mustard Dog 06-12-2007, 05:52 PM Dude you're almost done:D
Vortec_Cruiser 06-25-2007, 10:58 PM Did you cut off the rear of the frame, so it would match the length of the chassis?
wow, those are going be like 30" lift blocks:flipoff2:
Air Ride 06-26-2007, 01:29 AM Did you cut off the rear of the frame, so it would match the length of the chassis?
We cut about 5" off the back of the frame.
Vortec_Cruiser 06-26-2007, 09:33 PM Thanks. :)
Vortec_Cruiser 07-08-2007, 11:27 PM Looking at your front cross-brace with flared-holes, can I assume that's .120 thick? :)
Vortec_Cruiser 07-10-2007, 04:27 PM Let's see some more pics. :)
Air Ride 07-11-2007, 03:12 PM Looking at your front cross-brace with flared-holes, can I assume that's .120 thick? :)
It's 1/8" mild steel and we will be offering them for $39.95.
Air Ride 07-17-2007, 03:14 PM Front shock mounts and windshield V supports.
Mustard Dog 07-17-2007, 08:08 PM I want to see detailed pics of the lables on you tool box drawers, you know the one I'm talking aboot:laughing:
Air Ride 07-19-2007, 06:32 PM Winch mounting plate
fj40forlife 07-19-2007, 06:45 PM im liking this built alot.........
82toycrawler 07-29-2007, 08:17 PM This thing is looking sweet. Keep the pics coming.
Arya Ebrahimi 07-29-2007, 09:01 PM Is the winch plate 1/8" as well(looks like it since it's dimpled)?? Do you think that will be strong enough? or are you going to gusset it underneath? Lookin good!
D Rat 08-15-2007, 10:08 PM Dont leave us hanging, more info and pics please.
Vortec_Cruiser 08-16-2007, 11:45 PM Is the winch plate 1/8" as well(looks like it since it's dimpled)?? Do you think that will be strong enough? or are you going to gusset it underneath? Lookin good!
I was wondering the same thing. :)
desertoy 08-17-2007, 01:49 PM Is that winch going to double as a radiator. Damn that thing's big.
Air Ride 08-19-2007, 08:48 AM Is the winch plate 1/8" as well(looks like it since it's dimpled)?? Do you think that will be strong enough? or are you going to gusset it underneath? Lookin good!
It has a 1/8" channel gusset underneath.
That winch is a big one but it weighs less than a winch and compressor separate.
wngrog 08-20-2007, 09:15 PM My 3RZ is a badass motor for a 4 banger, but I would dread hauling around 4 bodies with it.
Awesome build so far....
Air Ride 09-10-2007, 09:17 PM Fire wall.
Air Ride 09-10-2007, 09:20 PM Center cross member.
fj40forlife 10-02-2007, 01:49 AM this is looking nice.........
MT4Runner 10-02-2007, 08:13 AM Wow, Mike, really elegant work!
And I mean elegant in the engineering sense; not elegant in the feather boa and ....nevermind.
Vortec_Cruiser 10-16-2007, 11:07 PM How about an update, Mike? :)
abrogate 10-16-2007, 11:24 PM where/how is the exhaust going to pass through the x-member?
edit: never mind. i thought that was a flat belly, but it appears to retain the OEM t-case x-member. although, i noticed that one of the three holes on the pass. side is not flared. maybe thats the through hole?
Stealthrunner 10-17-2007, 04:08 AM :smokin:Cool build Mike!!!!! exhaust looks like it will go through the center hole on the passenger side...
Vortec_Cruiser 11-04-2007, 11:03 PM Any updates???
Vortec_Cruiser 11-16-2007, 12:56 AM What springs are you using for this project? :)
Fire wall.
I think Im going to try and copy your fire wall design.:flipoff2: Looks awesome!
Air Ride 12-20-2007, 11:15 AM What springs are you using for this project? :)
Marlin's 5"
Tin Bender 12-21-2007, 11:05 AM Mike, I ain't no rockit Syintist but that sub frame looks a little deep:confused: Did BelVista help ya'll with It?...:flipoff2:
Mustard Dog 12-21-2007, 12:09 PM Now that you're back on board Bender, when can we start seeing the pissing chops?
Air Ride 12-21-2007, 05:37 PM Mike, I ain't no rockit Syintist but that sub frame looks a little deep:confused: Did BelVista help ya'll with It?...:flipoff2:
That’s the way it has to be to get the proper number out of the 4 link calculator.
Mustard Dog 12-21-2007, 05:55 PM That’s the way it has to be to get the proper number out of the 4 link calculator.
OMFG:laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laugh ing::laughing::laughing:
HOTTAMALE 12-22-2007, 01:33 PM Looks sick dude :smokin:
Vortec_Cruiser 12-28-2007, 11:33 AM Come on, Mike. I need some updates on this. Withdrawals are setting in... :D
Vortec_Cruiser 01-22-2008, 03:27 PM I would sure like to see an update on this. :)
Air Ride 01-22-2008, 07:57 PM Havnt had time to work on it much but here is some pics. Diamond axles front and rear of course. POS full hydro steering with Slee high steer arms. PRP pre-teen back seats for the kids.
Vortec_Cruiser 01-22-2008, 10:07 PM Thanks for the crumb. :)
mtbrjon 01-23-2008, 06:17 AM What's that housing width wms to wms? Have been talking to Brian about housings and this is a good shot of how the housing will fit with leaves. Is this rig gonna jump? Air bumps? Just curious.
Air Ride 01-23-2008, 10:19 AM 62" WMS to WMS
Air bumps and 2" fox remote reservoir shocks.
Toddy 01-23-2008, 10:56 AM Where you getting the shaftsd for these housings? If Bobby Long how much more are they for custom length if any?
Toddy
Arya Ebrahimi 01-23-2008, 11:13 AM Diamond Axle(Brian Ellinger) is the only guy who does custom length inners for Bobby. You'd have to chat with him on pricing.
mtbrjon 01-23-2008, 12:37 PM 62" WMS to WMS
Air bumps and 2" fox remote reservoir shocks.
Width added to the short side only?
Cool. Should fly nicely.
Brian Ellinger 01-23-2008, 04:01 PM Id have to look up the build specs, it is FJ80 outers. So length was taken off the long, added to the short, to get the 9.5" center over to fit the leaf springs. If I recall, its matching stock 80 front width of 63.5".
ugly80 04-15-2008, 08:33 PM updates?
Air Ride 05-03-2008, 11:57 AM Got the springs and axle mounted. Working on shock mounts now.
dino1967 05-03-2008, 12:58 PM that rig is going to be sweet!!
great job!!!
xjmania030 05-04-2008, 02:20 PM nice bro. keep us updated.
Brian Ellinger 05-05-2008, 04:12 PM Nice beadlock rings, OMF?
TheTonka 05-06-2008, 01:54 PM Very nice. Makes me want to build a non-competition Formula Four.
Hvy_Chevy 05-08-2008, 08:56 AM Digging the winch mount (I want to rebuild mine now that I finished it.)
nvrenuf 06-07-2008, 09:05 AM Bump for updates please... :grinpimp:
nvrenuf 06-17-2008, 03:01 PM bump again
nvrenuf 09-06-2008, 10:44 PM New pics?
TheTonka 09-07-2008, 12:53 PM Yeah how bout some updates?
Air Ride 10-23-2008, 09:06 PM New fuel tank.
dukguy 10-24-2008, 12:14 AM Hey Mike what do you think the wheelbase will be? I am thinkin about doin another ftoy and i am not sure if i want go with the ftoy 4 seater or the standard.
Did you answer the wheelbase question?
Air Ride 10-24-2008, 12:47 AM The wheelbase right now is 118".
desertoy 10-24-2008, 08:53 AM Mike, are you gong to put a sump on that fuel tank? If not, what are you going to use for a pickup?
Air Ride 10-24-2008, 10:18 AM There is a hole in the center that drains into a gallon or so sump on the bottom. The baffles are arranged so any fuel in the tank is forced to the center every time the buggy changes attitude. Hopefully it will hold 20 or more gallons when done.
MT4Runner 10-24-2008, 02:12 PM Awesome work on the fuel cell, Mike! :grinpimp:
Rear axle looks like an FJ80 full floater. Is the diff set to the driver's side? (swapped shafts?)
9.5" LC 3rd or Taco/tundra 3rd?
TheTonka 10-24-2008, 02:28 PM Very nice. Makes me wonder how much it would be to just have you guys build me one. :D
Brian Ellinger 10-29-2008, 02:18 PM Awesome work on the fuel cell, Mike! :grinpimp:
Rear axle looks like an FJ80 full floater. Is the diff set to the driver's side? (swapped shafts?)
9.5" LC 3rd or Taco/tundra 3rd?
9.5 3rd, stock length 80 shafts, swapped side to side to get the pinion a bit closer to center.
tunaboat 11-08-2008, 07:27 AM What size tires do you plan to run?
Air Ride 11-08-2008, 09:49 AM 37" crawlers
toyjoeta 11-09-2008, 01:20 PM Do you have any pics, of your inboard rear spring hangers? Are you still selling them? I can't find them on your site.
Thanks
Joe
Air Ride 11-14-2008, 06:42 PM Fuel tank is in looks like it will hold 22 gallons.
Stealthrunner 12-08-2008, 03:36 AM Nice work Mike looks Sweet!!!!!:smokin:

Hey Mike, how well does that heat exchanger work above your heater??
Air Ride 12-08-2008, 10:32 AM Hey Mike, how well does that heat exchanger work above your heater??
It works OK, the best part is it starts making heat a lot faster then the stove does.
minam44 12-08-2008, 06:30 PM Are those your X-joints on those shackles? what are the measurements of them?
Jon
Air Ride 12-08-2008, 11:04 PM Are those your X-joints on those shackles? what are the measurements of them?
Jon
Those are poly bushings on the shackles.
The X-joints are the standard 2-5/8 with a 9/16 bolt hole.
GOOBAWIGGA 02-09-2009, 10:11 AM 2 months?? any updates??
Air Ride 02-09-2009, 12:56 PM Rear bump stops
Air Ride 02-09-2009, 01:02 PM Interior aluminum work.
desertoy 02-09-2009, 02:36 PM That looks nice Mike. Did you have to notch out the dash bar for the tilt steering?
Air Ride 02-09-2009, 02:44 PM That looks nice Mike. Did you have to notch out the dash bar for the tilt steering?
I cut 4" out and welded it in, I hope warpage doesn't make it hard to adjust.
Heywood 02-09-2009, 03:58 PM Wow 22gals fuel! and didnt take up any useable area, nice.
cruiserjg 02-28-2009, 08:56 AM I like the axles. I jist picked up some fj 60 axles and have been looking a the dimonds. Did they provide the fj 80 nuckels and balls I have not been able to find a cheep 80 axle. Also how much stronger are the 9.5" compaired to the 8" diffs.
Thanks
nightcrawler 04-17-2009, 07:16 PM Any updates Mike?

:cool2:
Air Ride 11-17-2009, 11:43 PM Did some front suspension cycling today to figure out shock placement and bump stop hight.
chvyhs 11-18-2009, 08:29 AM What are you looking for when cycling the suspension? Are you measuring to get the shocks at a specific angle when compressed and extended?
Air Ride 11-18-2009, 09:29 AM We are checking that the shocks don't bottom out or top out. Also checking where to put the bump stops so we don't hit the axle or steering linkage on anything when it bottoms out. We alway mount the shocks as close to the wheel as possible on the axle and lean the shock in enough that it wont go past 90 degrees to the axle at full articulation.
TheTonka 11-18-2009, 11:44 AM This thing is so cool. I wonder if I could get the wife to agree to sell my CJ5 and her Rhino and build one of these. :D
desertoy 11-18-2009, 02:09 PM That's why I didn't get my moch up leaf springs back :p. That's ok, you can keep em. I made another set :flipoff2:.
Air Ride 11-18-2009, 05:57 PM That's why I didn't get my moch up leaf springs back :p. That's ok, you can keep em. I made another set :flipoff2:.
The custom KOH spring broke while we were flexing it.
montezuma 11-19-2009, 12:14 PM After working with the slee steering, does it look at all like a draglink would be able to clear the leafs on the passenger side (assuming someone wanted to use this axle and do standard crossover steering)? I realize leaf set-ups are different from rig to rig, but how big of a deal would it be? A serious PITA?
Air Ride 11-19-2009, 12:55 PM We are running the full hydraulic steering over the springs so I'm sure a drag link set up could be worked out.
montezuma 11-19-2009, 01:11 PM We are running the full hydraulic steering over the springs so I'm sure a drag link set up could be worked out.
Perfect. Thank you.
VasToyBoy 08-19-2011, 02:05 AM Did it die? I know. Old ass post. Just kinda curious how it turned out.
yotee 08-22-2011, 06:13 PM Did it die? I know. Old ass post. Just kinda curious how it turned out.

bluzuk80 08-23-2011, 11:12 AM Just when I though I had the baddest 3RZ four seat ftoy I run across this beautiful piece of art. Great work:eek:
