: Ammo shortages
aloharover 05-25-2007, 05:28 PM So seriously, whats up with ammo these days?
I know that the military is currently using a lot, and I guess that might explain why 308 or 223 is difficult. But it sure doesn't explain wolf or foriegn surplus.
Seems like anytime I find a good deal, its gone within hours.

Sure it does. The now good guys are using 7.62X39 and the 5.45 stuff as in the Iraqi Army and police are buying it up. Afgan and Pakistan army are buying it up as well.
I just "hope" that Wolf the company is limiting it's sales to goddguy customers

Isn`t that enough to get you reloading yet? I took the day off today and spent part of it looking for components. I picked up 15,000 lg. rifle primers made by CCI for the military, for $253 shipped from Wideners. Thats less than what I was paying 10 years ago. Found a guy local that had 3000 once fired 7.62 x 51 Winchester NATO marked cases for $80, picked them up and hour ago. I`ve got a line on 5000 surplus 147 gr. FMJ bullets that I will get for $60 a thousand. I`ve already got 64 lbs. of surplus Accurate powder that works for 7.62 or 5.56. That will build 9700 7.62 rounds or 17,000 5.56. Natchez supply has surplus Accurate powder suitable for 5.56 in 8 lb. kegs for $70.00. It`s backordered, but they said it`s coming. I saw a few decent deals on ebay for bullets also.
Aces'n'8s 05-25-2007, 06:41 PM Like anything else....I'm sure all those houses that "had" pallets of surplus ammo fully understand their market now. Therefore, IMO they are discriminately releasing it as they see fit. Whatever the case, I'm sure when we get involved with Iran...prices are going to skyrocket.

LOL, accept for the .38, 9mm, and 45acp HydraShocks I haven't purchased ammo in years.
I am using win 147g FMJ with IMR 4895 for my loads. No where near as good a deal as you got/get.
Whats your source on the pulled bullets? I have 4500 LC brass to load :D
4x401cj 05-25-2007, 08:04 PM I`m a member of the Douglas Ridge Rifle club here in Oregon, it`s been around since the `50`s. Heavy involvement with the CMP. Anyway, lots of old guys here that don`t shoot much anymore getting rid of components, and they`re connected pretty well to find military surplus. Meeting tomorrow with the club V.P. :D

Just like the fuel prices.
Our government is buying 7.62x39 by the ton and supplying the Iraqi's with it.
rocknbronco 05-27-2007, 12:38 PM More of a waste of our tax dollars yet again:shaking:
I have heard alot of folks complaining about shipment times with many otherwise common rounds.

And hence the underground popularity of the Mosin. While not an ammo slinger....$80 for 960 rds of corrosive ammo is very appealing. Just remember to soap it up at the end of the day.
rocknbronco 05-27-2007, 02:14 PM Yes they are quite loud and they do pack a punch I like mine.
Halogrinder 05-27-2007, 04:27 PM too bad all the fucking 7.62x54 is bought up too. i went to the gun show in houston, and i bought the remaining 60 rounds left in the building. i was intending on buying a few thousand rounds, but left with blue balls.
rocknbronco 05-27-2007, 06:32 PM Its not picked up to heavily in my area but ammo is still hard to find.

While finding cheap Bulgarian might still take a concerted effort, it's still out there.
Century has 2500rd of Russian belted Heavy Ball ammo for $625.

In 04-05 the ammo that I saw didn't have a Wolf name on it anywhere. Not say that the company isn't making the ammo and putting it in "plain' boxes.
If you only knew how many rounds of ammo and weapons are getting destroyed, only for us to turn around and buy brand new stuff :shaking:
I know that there is an issue of terrorist tampering with the stuff, but they sure are pretty sophisticated if they are able to put tampered ammo into sealed spam cans, inside of sealed crates.
Not to mention that at first much of the stuff we were blowing up we were removing from the Iraqi Army ammo bunkers.
</rant off>

Well it is for belted ammo and not $0.10/rd....hence the more expensive price. It's also Russian, and from what I hear, it's better (accuracy/reliability) than that older Bulgarian stuff.
Maybe your locale is different, but in Memphis, I don't even bother bringing a shopping list to the gun shows. Everybody is waaayyyyy overpriced and doesn't want to bargain.
