: New tow rig
Fordman500 05-27-2007, 10:22 PM Just picked me up a 2000 4x4 diesel 6 speed f350. Had some issues with the title, but at 14k and only 49k on the clock I couldnt pass it up. Ran it about 600 miles this weekend and did some dune playing and it worked awesome. I figured I got about 13.5 highway which was a bit dissapointing. I got diesel for 2.95 which was cool. 50 cents cheaper than regular. I am going to start researching things that you can do to get some better mileage... Anyone got tricks with the 7.3?

biggreentj 05-28-2007, 09:22 AM check out dp-tuner.com, i think thats the site, i have a programmer from them, and around town i get 16-17, and highway about 20mpg.
get the 80 economy and 40 tow.
tons of power and better MPG.
when i was set at stock i was getting about what you are.

What other mods do you have? Those numbers sound awesome, just hard to believe. I was thinking about getting a lower R&P (numerically) but wasn't sure.
biggreentj 05-28-2007, 11:05 AM other than that, straight pipes.
i love my dp tuner, you can get tons of settings, totally worth it. i got mine used for $200
check thedieselstop.com or some other powerstroke websites, you might find one used.
from what i found out, dp is different that edge, banks, all those.
it is specifically programmed to your year truck, if you have intake, straight pipes, even other mods, its made to fit your truck and what you run, for the best performance.
biggreentj 05-28-2007, 11:10 AM when i first got it, i was skeptical, that i would see any performance, at first i did not install right. and i saw nothing, i read some and found out i did not sand off enough sealant around the computer plug in. once i did that, it was amazing, you could hear the difference, i revved it up, and saw the black smoke, and i new it was working, took it for a test and loved it.
mine has stock, 40 tow, 80 econ., 120 race, hi idile
120 race isnt much different than 80 econ. lil more smoke, i hear if you have more mods, like injectors, stronger tranny, then you will see results from the 120 race.
i reccomend stock, either 40 or 60 tow, 80 economy, and they have a no start i believe also. leave it on economy for best MPG all the time.
Fordman500 05-28-2007, 01:18 PM Its a single wheel truck. I will have to look into that tuner, if I could get 20 driving easy then that would be awesome. Its got 3.73's as well. So after loking at that tuner I was thinking of using the files that you have on your tuner... I dont know what else it needs or could benefit from, maybe an air intake. Exhuast is stock, but do these have cats? If they do then mine doesnt have one. One more thing, for fuel does anyone use any sort of fuel additives? I am becomin an amsoil dealer so I will probly end up using that fuel additive.
rocknbronco 05-28-2007, 02:33 PM You could get higher than that with a 3.73 and the proper pedal imput.
89breaker 05-28-2007, 04:09 PM If I get one tuned for my current setup, I am going to need it reprogrammed if I get an intake, exhaust, or regear?
I was going to call them, but since we are already on the subject, why not get some end user feedback.
Fordman500 05-28-2007, 04:11 PM I guess that I was having a bit of fun with the turbo hehe. I need to stay out of it as much as possible I guess. I too would like to know if I do other things performance wise to the truck do I need a different dp tune?
Danger Ranger 05-28-2007, 06:11 PM 4wd truck too?
best I have ever gotten was 18ish with a raw egg under my right foot.
16ish mpg typical daily driving (hills and crooked roads)
18mpg a few times on some looooong unloaded trips.
12mpg towing my buggy n trailer (7k or so)
10mpg with my 10.5' cabover and buggy (verified 18k gross)
15mpg with just cabover (55 friggen mph the whole way... yaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn)
What I have done to my truck: '00 F350 CC LB 4X 7.3L 4r100 w/tugger kit & 6.0 trans cooler, Big Honkin Air Filter, CCV Mod, ceramic TN 0.84 turbo w high flow outlet from BWD, Over boost valve, 4" DP and 5" exhaust, auto meter gauges in overhead pod, DP'd... 40/60t, 80e & 120, prodigy brake controller, 15k superhitch and air bags.
I'm much happier with my truck now. I bought it for $20k then I added about 3-4k of stuff on it. It pulls and handles the load sooo much better now :D
x 3498573245987345987 on checking out the 7.3 forums on thedieselstop ;)
oh and the dp tuner chip is reprogramable as you add mod's, just need a quick send back for programming changes or updates. As you grow and decide to do more you can change the programming as needed. Things like injectors or big oil require custom programming and the cookie cutter diesel aftermarket will not be able to help here ;)
89breaker 05-28-2007, 10:17 PM Danger Ranger, thanx......that is quite a list. While I don't know half of what you just said, I am familiar with diesel stop and it is a good site.
biggreentj 05-29-2007, 04:48 AM I too would like to know if I do other things performance wise to the truck do I need a different dp tune?
i believe as long as you buy it from him, you can send it back to get programmed however you want.
Fordman500 05-29-2007, 07:00 PM Does anyone make bio diesel?? I think I might give it a shot, its like .70 cents a gallon to make... :D
