Lift kit for FJ's

I'm helping someone out :flipoff2:

What would be the best suspension lift for one of those new FJ's. He wants 2" of lift and uses it offroad for hunting. Otherwise it's his daily driver.

I was thinking All Pro.

And I'm thinking this is too JU'ish for the FJ forum. Size wheels and tires are next :flipoff2:

I would consider the AP or Revtek kits.

tire size is gonna comedown to how much power your willing to loose cause I don't think you can get a gear for them yet.

This would be a good kit to start with, paired with some 265/75/16 tires on stock wheels.

I like how it replaces the control arms. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble finding a place to install it (I'm not working on his shit) and I'm not sure if this guy knows what a wrench looks like so he doesn't need to be doing suspension work. :flipoff2:

I did find a place that will install Old Man Emu. Any experience with those?

For a small lift (under 3"), I think the OME is the best.

I had OME coils on the front of my 02 Tacoma and was happy with them, around 20K they started to sag and I lost around 1/2" after the initial settle. It's my understanding they have addressed this with the product line for the current gen Tacos and FJs.

I have yet to mod my 06 Taco:(, so I cannot give you first hand info on the current products.

I would go with a Donahoe lift:D, but read and make the decision based apon your likes and needs. If you are interested in one PM me ! I am a Donahoe dealer.

I run the OME lift on my FJC and I'm happy with it so far. It's a good middle of the road kit that's fairly reliable. I'm running heavy springs (886) up front to support the Demello bumper and winch. I installed the heavy rear springs (896) and longer N71E FJ80 soft valved shocks. I would recommend going with a softer spring like the OME mediums (895) in the rear if you don't have a heavy rear bumper or don't carry cargo.

I put the all-pro front ajustibale shocks in last night. took about 3 hrs and was very easy. its 8 bolts per side. unbolt the sway bar, disconnect upper ball joint, unbolt 2 small bolts that hold the abs wiring. unbolt the strut and slide out old strut and slip in new one bolt back together. it realy was just that easy. 19mm 12mm and 14mm wrenchs pair of pliars and a jack is all you need. you do not have to take the upper control arm off just lift it up. disconnect the swaybar on both sides. put it back last thing.

For your friends needs (hunting and DD) OME MD all the way... I run Donahoes and also like All-Pro but they are pricey compared to OME and OME is tried and true tested in the roughest terrain on earth (the Outback). If your friend was a serious wheeler I would recommend DR, AP, King, or Sway-A-Way. For his purposes for the $$$$ and his use, OME.

I agree with FJ-Ollie.

Based on the description of use - Hunting and DD - OME is way to go. Mild lift, good ride, can fit 285/70/17's (33's!) with no other modifications.

Tires depend on where he lives. I drive at 10,000' and just put on 265/70/17(I think that was it... +10 from stock) snows and noticed a significant power loss over the stock tire. Down at sea level I don't think it would be that big of a deal.

I had OME's on my D90 for 10 years and the ride was better than stock - just like on my FJ - way better now with the OME!

i went with toytec "3 lift, so far happy with it.
