I have a T-18 in my CJ and it seems to work just fine. Although in 4th gear, it seems to put off kind of a "ringing" noise- there's no metal in the oil though.
It could be I'm just hearing it because the trans cover wasn't on last time I drove it. Is the noise normal? Not real loud, but you can definitely hear it over the tires.

t-18's are pretty noise but not in a high pitched way. what kind of oil do you have in it? you might check to see if it is a heavy enough weight and then maybe move a little heavier. just an idea

Does it happen at any speed or just highway speed?

Does it happen in 4th all the time no matter if your on the gas or off?

I had a sink-ring come out of 3rd in a T-150 and lock the trans solid at 65mph. What a ride:eek: It made a ringing sound

Replaced my 150 with an 18 a little over a year ago and I have the same situation. I only hear it at highway speeds and it hasn't presented any problems in that time but it makes me wonder sometimes.:smokin:

Mine received a t-18 after the 150 came apart.

I don't have that noise.

I've got a T-18a in my jeep. For me its first gear that has been noisy. I recently changed the trans fluid and there wasnt any metal in it. And i've heard others experience this same type of noise in their T-18 trannies. So i figure its just a normal thing for this transmission to make a little noise.
