looking at a truck with a 4.3L swapped in. When i was driving it the oil pressure guage read about 40 the whole time and the temp ran around 185. Ive searched and cant find anywhere what "normal" or good oil pressure and temp should be. Any help would be great. and i dont know the year of the engine.
thanks

Both are fine.

The very general rule for oil pressure is 10 psi for every 1000 RPMs. Like I said....general.

the 10psi for every 1000rpms i would say is a bare minimum. but what your getting is normal.

i've got a 4.3 in my blazer came stock and it the winter i'm lucky for it to create enough heat to keep you warm i don't know if they cool too much or what.

My 98 4.3L in my CJ7 runs 195 (OEM thermostat), and about 55-60psi at 2400rpm.

A 4.3 can run comfortably between 170 and 210 degrees. Any less and you'll find a little loss in power because the computer isn't as happy and tries to compensate. Anything more and you've got something worth paying a little more attention to.

Oil pressure is = or > what Odin posted.

You're running right where you should be.
