Hey guys, I am hearing mixed info on mating a 5.7 LS1 to an SM465. I found out that using a flywheel off of an older SBC will not work. I have also heard that the flywheel from a 4.3 will work, a 5.3 will work, and a 6.0 will work. Has anyone done this setup?

It appears that post #5 in your second of now 3 threads pretaining to this subject provided you with the information that you need an 01+ 4.8 or 6.0 flywheel.

Why anyone would want to back such a high-reving high horsepower motor with a sloppy 30 year old dump truck trans is beyond me, but good luck with the project and post pictures when you're done.

Just get a Gen III flywheel and go from there. Here's my combo with a 5.3L Vortec:

Stock LS1 flywheel
Novak LS1 extended pilot bushing
Early Chevy car bellhousing (late 50s cast iron - open bottom)
Mid-60s Chevy truck fork (cast)
Mid-height GM throwout bearing
McLeod 12" truck clutch and pressure plate (call and tell them what you're trying to do)
McLeod adjustable pivot

No, I don't have time to research all the part numbers for you. There are hundreds of combinations that will work. Just read everything on Novak's site and figure it out with whatever parts you have.

I called novak and they said to get a 6.0 flywheel 91 or newer
