Brian Ellinger 05-29-2007, 07:45 PM For curiousity, how far forward are you guys sitting? Pedal being the only reference I can think of, here's ours:

my brake booster mounts on that tube, yours is a good 6" more forward than where mine is. I have been thinking about moving it forward now that I know the trie comes nowhere near it, because its a bit cramped with the back seat installed.
edit: have no idea why the pic won't work... have try'd reuploading but no worky.
desertoy 05-30-2007, 03:10 PM The Marlin Crawler F-Toy looks to be the same as yours Brian.
mtbrjon 05-30-2007, 06:35 PM We're even with the tube as well. You planning to try 4 seats in yours? You may have mentioned before but I didn't see.
Brian Ellinger 05-30-2007, 08:12 PM Yes, planning on 4 seats. With the last 2 removable easily, and extra cage struture removable as well. I also wanted to be as far forward as possible for visibility.
Hammer Hog 05-30-2007, 11:08 PM Mine are also off that same beam...

MT4Runner 05-30-2007, 11:27 PM How tall are all of you? I saw in Brian's build thread that he's 6'-3"......
yeah I'm 5'10" and its squishy but very comfortable for me. Any taller and my setup is a no go.

Was that an I beam? Or could some large angle also be used? I like the idea and may try to copy it since mine is going to be using wilwood pedals
mtbrjon 05-31-2007, 06:09 AM I'm 6' but only 2 seats in our rig. Considered 4 seats but couldn't get front and rear passengers comfortable leg room.
MT4Runner 05-31-2007, 07:25 AM I have two daughters, 5yo and 3yo; they fit comfortably in the backseat of the Runner. Most often, one of them sits up front, as their mom isn't as keen on wheelin'. I'm 6'-6"...so that doesn't leave tons of room for a backseat passenger behind me. I'll shove my pedals/mcyls forward of the "lower windshield bar" like Brian did.
I'm not terribly worried about adult passenger room...by the time they're 15 or 16, I hope they're driving the FToy, and I only need room in the front passenger seat for me!
Browsing for FToy pictures from 'onthemarqphotos.com', I found this one of Pook:

And Marlin's (028?)...how tall is John?:

I used angle.
It's very stout...

Im closer to 6 2 I think... I think we can with decent legroom. The rear seats I figure will have their butts over or in front on the rear axle.
Marlin's rig was built for a variety of people. John fits in everything, as long as he can reach the pedals! :D

Looks good to me, thats the way I would do it.
You always want to sit as far forward as possible.
DogDenII 06-02-2007, 06:12 AM I'm 5'7" though

MT4Runner 12-15-2007, 05:15 PM Researching pedal placement for my rig.
M1 (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=568445&p=7595600) just did his:
I spent some time this weekend on the fire wall design and mounting the pedals. Its turning out pretty good. I copied the design of the ultimate formula four by hendrix, with my own twists. its far from done but you can get the general idea.
I ended up using the pedals out of an 84 pickup. Theyre rusty and nasty looking but will be cleaned and painted after Im done mocking them up. I mounted them as far forward as I could without making them too vonerable to the tire. I used two simple tabs on the top and one on the square tube at the bottom. Very simple mounting but suprisingly strong.I also had to shorten the pedals so that my long feet could work them. Next up will be the go fast pedal!!! Then maybe mounting my seats.:smokin:

The original Marlin Crawler 028 (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=301875&p=3711405) setup:
We though about using aftermarket peddles but it's hard to improve on the performance of the stock peddles and we had them from the truck so Andy created a mounting plate and hung them on the cage. A FJ-80 master cylinder will be used with the 85 vacuum brake diaphragm.

The revised setup:
We ran into some problems with the previous peddle mount. The peddles ended up in the wrong position and only a club footed midget could drive it. In moving the peddles Andy ended up not using the fancy plate with speed holes. It was also going to interfere with the hood plans so Andy ended up using some simple tabs to mount the peddles.

If you have plans for a backseat do it like Brian did. Mines currently mounted to the bar like all the others very similar to Marlins revised setup. I'm planning on movign mine ahead this winter similar to the FROR ftoy. plenty of clearance from the tires.
