ashmanjeepXJ 05-30-2007, 01:10 PM Your front fender bar at the wheel well wont do you much good, if you have it higher at the top of the fender that will work good for sliding through stuff. Are you adding another tube for the top?
Have you though about moving the gas tank through the floor and dove tailing the rear to make is narrower?
Have you though about boat siding it...
I Wish I boat sided mine and kept it narrower. Eventually Ill have cut it all off and start over.
KiGrind 05-30-2007, 01:38 PM I think it looks good so far. Atleast its not galv water pipe slaped together.
HardcorewannabeXJ 05-30-2007, 01:56 PM Definatly needs the cross bar over the cowl :) I'd like to see how you are tieing that front fender bar into the front end, when I do mine it will tie into the bumper and stinger.

They'll be a bar at the hood line. Lower fender bar ties everything to the sliders and keeps the tires from getting cut up...
Gas tank will probably get moved at some point...
Don't really want to make the rear narrower. Need some storage and it will be protected...
Sliders are solid, so no reason to cut them off to boatside it...
End of tonight...
Rear's pretty much done besides an X and some spreaders...
I welded the body to the cage along the roof bars and the rear side tubes.
Goatman 05-31-2007, 12:06 AM Good protection, strong enough, nice lines.........looks good.
Are you thinking of protectng the taillights?
JEEParon 05-31-2007, 12:20 AM i really like the start of the rear tubing. looks good. i cant wait to get my exo started this winter
hadfield4wd 05-31-2007, 05:59 AM I like how you welded the tube to the body.
cliffhanger135 05-31-2007, 12:16 PM just an idea, here is how i did mine. Worked pretty good if you have the correct front bumper to tie into.

same here

Looks great though, clean lines and clean looking fab.

Sliders hit rocks the higher they are the less they hit.
My rear is narrowed and back halved (bottom cut off) and I have been wedged stuck from it several times.
I havent needed a narrowed front, but raised slideres and narrowed rear fits well on trails. Or do what ever you want...:flipoff2:

If I wanted a buggy I'd build it...It's just an XJ, can't forget that. Just something to have un with :D
Just got to shop...More pics tonight
Front will be similar to the rest of the trux I've done...Like this
AprilzWarrior 06-16-2007, 06:10 PM I like the front... nice work !
:smokin:
smurison14 06-16-2007, 07:59 PM front tube works looks sick:smokin:
Rockybar 06-16-2007, 08:06 PM Looks nice, great work.
pipehitter155 06-17-2007, 07:20 AM looks good...

The front looks great... the rear sucks :flipoff2:
offroader5 06-18-2007, 03:56 PM I would be concerned that in a roll the A pillar would just push the front fender bar forward which would allow the front corner of the roof to cave in. Have you thought of runnig another vertical down from the A piller bar to the slider like this?

jpnbren 06-19-2007, 11:26 AM i really like the front
Screwzer2 06-20-2007, 02:45 PM You gonna be able to use the doors with this set up?
im sorry...
It's ok...When you get to the point where you want to be as hard as possible on a vehicle and have nothing happen to it you will understand....

I might put a tube there. Door bars are still going on so i might just plate them and be done with it.
You gonna be able to use the doors with this set up?
Stock doors are gone. Would probably work if the B Pillar was plate or sunken into the cab. Would be cool, but this is just a beater, so I don't want to put that much time into it.
ultimatejeep 06-20-2007, 07:07 PM Looking real good
Finally started working on it again. It's sat since the rubicon trip...
Put on windshield and drivers side door bars aswell as one of the roof spreaders...
I'll take better pictures next time I work on it. :mr-t:
the Merg 12-05-2007, 08:40 PM That's probably one of the better looking exos I've seen, nice work.
Some old pics I never posted of the cowl bar...Hood fits in snug to there's no need for pins :smokin:
cherokeefreak92 12-06-2007, 08:03 AM What happened to the windsheild?
What happened to the windsheild?
I wanted it out so I hit it with a piece of tubing...Then couldn't find a knife.
It cracked when we took it thru the rubicon, so it had to go.
Put an X in the back today. More work on it tomorrow. :mr-t:
Finished up the roof spreaders and started welding the cab to the cage. One big shear plate...Just a little thin
Alot of tube, but it's going to get beat on if I don't sell it... :mr-t:
shmoken875 12-10-2007, 07:44 AM I'm normally not a fan of exos but that looks awsome:smokin:
COVEJEEPSXJ 12-10-2007, 08:00 AM Wow. Now if I could only find someone local to me to do the bending, I would say COPY THIS.
Jeepernick 12-10-2007, 08:22 AM looks like a cool trail rig for sure
what is with the tubing under the front bumper? attached to the axle?

rock ramp :D
I didn't want to put money into hi steer for it so i put a tube and some plate to slide on. It still needs bracing.
I'll get some pics of it today. :mr-t:

rock ramp....sounds like a good idea to me!!!
Jeepernick 12-10-2007, 02:50 PM kind of thought so... just wanted to know more
I have seen one rig with one and it wasnt built very well or he used weak tubing and was a bad welder he bent it all the shit, pulled one end off and it seemed to hold him up more then get him forward

Here's some better pictures. I'm going to brace it off the sway bar mounts. It's taken a few hits. Kinda suprised it never bent.
Oil pan...not so lucky :shaking:
Jeepernick 12-10-2007, 04:06 PM That looks pretty good, I think it would bend where you cut the tube to allow the steering to travel
could always do OTK steering with the stock steering to gain a little more room to brace that top again and extra bracing
you could make a skid that mounts on the back of the axle to protect from future oil pan damage
I know I know great ideas right :D
lol
Rockin a D30 too :smokin:

I put chucks of 3/8's where it's notched and the plate is 1/8". Shouldn't bend there.
I got a rusty's belly plate. Just alittle late.
I let everything self clearance.... :mr-t:
Made a skid plate for the transfer case tonight...
Welded it to the sub frame and crossmember. Not much support, but it'll bottom out on the tcase and be fine.

isn't this what you are trying to stop from happening with a skid?
That case (along with all cast aluminum cases) doesn't take abuse well.. I would think a little more protection could go a long way there...
COVEJEEPSXJ 12-13-2007, 10:28 AM Not much support, but it'll bottom out on the tcase and be fine.
Doesn't sound like that great of an idea to me...

What I'm stopping with the skid is getting hung up on the case.
The weight will distribute pretty evenly. And when the skid folds up into the case, it will be a third leg. The skid won't wear through the case where it's going to bottom out for a few years.
Finished the bracing on the launch ramp. Bolted and welded to the stock sway bar mounts...

I think your muffler bearing is shot. Throwing a piece of tube through the windshield? Now who would do a thing like that . . .

Muffler bearing is definetly shot...

Felt like flipping the jeep today...
:mr-t:
Jeepernick 12-15-2007, 05:04 PM stock lower control arms :flipoff2:
looks good, that is one way to test a exo
travisford83 12-15-2007, 06:01 PM Kyle, that thing is sick.....too bad the guys bagging on this thing don't realize that you have jack shit into the total build and it would probably out wheel them since you got a secret advantage over them....your lack of care for the rig. I will try to email you the video of flipping the rig back right side.
xjdoug 12-15-2007, 07:19 PM as fun as that sounds i wouldn't want to have to pull all the spark plugs just to pull it back in the shop :flipoff2: sweet rig... bet its a blast on the trail
stock lower control arms :flipoff2:

Stock lowers are the perfect match for stock shocks...
Flex is over rated anyways... It's all about weight transfer :mr-t:

Capt. Nemo 01-05-2008, 09:51 PM Was this thing up for sale on craigslist not too long ago?
Was this thing up for sale on craigslist not too long ago?
Yeah. Still for sale. I posted it here as well. $3000
I don't really want to sell it. But I could use the money for the buggy I'm building soon.
:mr-t:
travisford83 01-07-2008, 07:37 PM It looks like a couple of pros painted that thing:laughing: Whats up with all the over spray?
