Here is winch hill #1 last year and one of the water crossings. I made it through the squeeze with no problems, but I have no pics. Had a blast and we'll be there again this year!

nope. we were heading down the trail. there was a rock on the right side and my bro in law decided he wanted to see how far my truck could go:flipoff2: ha had to get the tire out of the nasty "red" pond.

just look under the ca four wheel drive sight under sierra trek... you should also be able to find it as fordyce trail on a search engine... its off of highway 80 by grass valley, ud prob. take I-5 to marysville to 20 to 80. parking is at the head of the trail or theres also a little camp ground up there. to get a map to there just go to a AAA company and ask for the map of the area hope that helps

Thanks man, when is a good time to go??? I'm thinking of a late August trip?: appreciate your help maybe i'll see you there someday man! Oh do people usually do the entire trail then come back the same way??

well in the begining of aug. theres the sierra trek run, which is always a blast!! but anytime in summer is usually a good time to run it. just check water flow, it is really low this year.

most people dont go up then back down, you can but its just a hassel with the rigs going up... either you go all the way through the 5 whinch hills or you take what we call the commitee trail just below WH#3 out...

Pic from last November. The land cruiser in this pic had already blown both front birfields and 2nds later sheered the rear drive shaft from too much right foot. Im the guy on the left next to the bronco 2 buggy looking on in disgust. We broke the ford 9" minutes later on the bronco trying to pull him out. Limped out the bronco in front wheel drive and left the Land Cruiser winched to a tree for a week on the bypass at the top.

I was in the area of Meadow Lake sat deer hunting and it was snowing up there. A few inches of snow and in spots 6" from past storms. Probably me melted as its supposed to heat up this week.

You know and I know that its not, so why point it out??:mad3: though it does not make it right, the pic is about five years old and at the present time alot of people were running that waterfall. Since it has been posted ( with off trail signs)I don't know anyone who has been down there to F-things up for everybody. You ever heard the old saying..."Two wrongs don't make a right"? The internet is a great tool for info, BUT you guys that sit on it all day and confront people in an open forum disgust me! Why not send they guy a PM and educate him on why he/she should not post it and why you should stay on the trail. Maybe get him to delete it. Now I can get him to delete it but how about you? NOW that YOU reposted it??:shaking:

You know what Kenny at that time when other people were there this guy roled up on everyone else trying it and dedcided (poor decision) to try it also. But why would you call it selfish? There was a very large group, its not like TODAY we would still go and run it and disregard all the signs and hard work everyone has volunteered to keep these trails open!! :mad3:

Back in the day that was part of the trail! up until the chickification of America we could wheel where we wanted and it wasn't a big deal. I understand that we have to "stay on the trail now" And I don't have a problem with it at all, but before all this hype on global warming and going green, driving over rocks was what we did and it really wasn't a big deal. and still isn't a big deal, unless you make it one, like you did. How do you think the trail got there in the first place! someone obviously drove over EVERYTHING to make the trail what it is today, i guess going out there 'YOU' are just adding to the "problem" as well... "selfish" = fawk off! if you didn't post such a stupid comment on a public forum no one would have known where that part of the trail is anyway. and I havn't been to that area in a few years and had no idea that part was "closed". Still i don't see the difference between that area and all the other obsticals out there. other than a new sign.

Well I don't like to go overboard deleting and editing and asking guys to do it either. I was kind of hoping no one would make an issue of that picture. I suppose I'll have to start PMing evey time now just to be on the safe side. Good to hear about the date of the pic though and the support of staying on trail given today's political climate. The way I see it is that showing us dum fer wheelers can learn and change is a very positive outcome from posting a picture like that. Of course that only works if the thread is taken as a whole and one stinking picture isn't taken out of context.

I had occasion to talk to a couple of guys that were slilghtly off trail in that general area a few weeks ago and got a very positive response. Cool.

Why point it out? I dunno, maybe because it was a sincere question? I didn't know it was off the trail as I've never started Fordyce from the beginning - but your assumption of why I asked the question doesn't take that into account.

that hole in there really got dug out last year. 3 years ago i have a picture of that spot and it was all full of small rocks and big ones from the v down the hill. today the V- at the base is all dirt for 20' down the hill

i was just on winch hills 1 & 2...haven't been to the "squeeze rock" (winch hill 3) yet...but i will be very careful though...:D because that will take my quarter panel if i will not do it right (did it on my xtra cab toy a few years back- took the quarter panel :shaking:)...and might even flop it :D

here are some from today. Just got home, spent 4 hours pulling 3 guys in toyotas out. Ohwell they bought jimmy his girl and i dinner so i cant complain. Only busted a ujoint, from going to fast and throwing a cap in my non balanced front driveshaft of the fire road back to the trailers.

How far did you make it? I had to work and stuff:( next time, I am still trying to get a con trip going for maybe mid jan. you in?

ill be back at school in mid january, if you want to go right after christmas send me a pm. We entered at Fordyce Lake and we went through winch hill number 4 then we turned around because it was snowing pretty hard. Id even be in for another Fordyce Run i dont mind having to winch, would have like to have more time on the trail but the weather was going bad so damn fast that there wasnt much choice.

I did this trail for the first time last summer and had an absolute blast. What a great trail! I broke a few little things on my full bodied Land Cruiser FJ60 but I have since added a 4.7 Marlin crawlbox so I want another piece. I think we exited somewhere between winch hill 2 and 3, commitee road maybe(?) but I hope to complete it sometime this summer. Unfortunately I don't have any cool action shots but I do have one of an excellent camp spot and somewhere on the bail out road.

Yup, Like Jesse said he went up with us and had a bearing lock up on him :( It was such a great sunny day Jessica and I decided to hit the trail alone. Dont worry there were a couple of friendly groups on the trail that we met up with :dustin:

1 am. snapped a rear leaf, and an output shaft. the truck was wedged in there. had to hike back down the mountain, and forge the river back to camp. got it out the next day with a little help. denied!

There was a fair amount of snow. The Committee Crossing was not too deep to cross but I don't think it would be possible to get up the hill on the other side. Rattlesnake is still closed in any event so you can't go out that way if that's what you mean.

There isn't a bunch of snow on the trail side of the crossing. The most we saw was in post #203 above. That's the hill before the third water crossing. We're heading back out in that photo. Can't say past the CC area. We didn't go any further since we wanted to get a fire going after being wet all day. Didn't look bad from what we saw.

the buggy broke an input on squeeze, started to flat tow out, ripped the front wheel off, then proceeded to blow a hydro steering line.....it was fucked, the piggy back really was the only option to get it out, worked really well actually.

BTW, the bypass is no joke at all these days, especially for shorter rigs. If you are short and narrow, you'll probably walk the dog up the crack.

Here is a pic I took from the top of Signal Peek. For those who have never been to Fordyce this is Old Man Mountain and you can see Meadow Lake in the background. The trail wraps around the base of Old Man Mt. and goes to Meadow lake.

ya that trip was fun. i want to get back out on the trail so bad since my truck hasnt broke the last 3 trips out. i dont think its gunna happen but im gunna get to throw down some $$$ on the truck over this winter so it will be cool. time to sit around and wait for snow now. :rolleyes:

I hear ya man. I got alot of work to do on my shit before spring. After goin on that trip I realized I really need to step some shit up haha ;) Just time and money which unfortunatly is very limited alot of times... Things will come together though.
