Hi all

I've had a search all over the net but haven't come up with anything conclusive, Does anyone know the weight of one or both of these, roughly is ok.
R380 + Lt230
Series 3 4spd + Part time T/case

I'm planning my build, if the weight difference isn't too much I want the R380, but it has to be way heavier doesn't it?

Cheers

Hi,

IŽd think the weight difference is no reason against going to the R380/LT230. Compared to the old 4-speed the R380 is far stronger. The Transfer box is strong in both cases.
All that could speak against the newer boxes are: cost, space (the R380 ist longer) and a front axle that is not fit for full-time-4x4.

I carried a LT230 a few days ago and guess that it weighs about 50-60kg.
The R380 might be another 60-70kg.
The 4speed+T-box is lighter, guess they sum to 70-80kg.

Yeah an R380 is way stronger than the old 4spd, but I'm planning on building a very light series 1 coiler so it probably won't need to be super strong, saving 50kg off the gearbox/Transfer box combo would be a good saving, and if i break it I might just have to change to and R380. I'm going to be running a CV front axle so running a 230 wouldn't be a problem but it's probably lots heavier than the old part time t/case. Do you think the Lt230 and old T/box will be similar strength?
