So a buddy of mine needs new steering because he's are all bent up. I'm thinking of making a tie rod & drag link using chevy 1 ton TRE's and mounting them on top of the knuckle instead of below. He is currently running a D30 will eventually swap it for a D44. I have the tapered reamer I used on my high steer set up can the knuckle be tapered that direction? Is the taper for the stock EB setup small enough to do this to? Thanks, my search on this topic took so long I gave up.

That is what I did to mine some time ago. Just tapered from the top, sometimes a sleeve is needed to be inserted then tapered.

I did pretty much the same thing he wants to do. Except I have a EB D44 with 79 knuckle out to convert to disk. All I had to do was ream the knuckles from the top and use 2 of these bushings.

Those look like 1/2 ton TREs to me. 1 ton TREs have a 1" shank.

Those are GM 85ish 1-ton TRE's. 7/8-18 thread.

You will have track bar issues if you do it, some have cut the lower bolt mount but IMO it's way better to raise the lower mount.

You sure, everything I have seen, 7/8" shank is 1/2 ton-3/4 ton, 1" shank is 1 ton.
Some of the spare TREs I have for my steering came off a early 70s Blazer, 7/8" shank.

I used the same TRE's listed on this site. I just went to the local parts store with the part #'s

And yeah before I moved the track bar mount it was close but I dont think it hit.

Exact setup is under my rig, EB44 with 79 F150 knuckles out, no inserts or bushings. Still need to raise the bottom trac bar mount though.

the es2026 and es 2027 came on 1/2 ton 3/4 ton and 1 ton draglink ends
the es2233 and es2234 are 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton tie rod ends
it sells better when you call it "one ton" so they lie
