When pulling some front springs from a 86' waggy yesterday and the long side axle [I had less than an hour before the yard closed] I took a look at the diff cover on this dana 44, it had a vacuum canister [small like an ERG vacuum] and a couple of lines running from the diff cover up by the side of the motor mount. The diff cover was larger also and had a large flat extended spot on it. I got ran off with only the springs and axle before I could pull the cover and check it out.

Does anyone know what type of contraption this was? Is it a locker? ARB? The yard is over an hour away and I can't get back today.

That is the vacuum disconnect Waggie 44 that you want to avoid. It must have been an '83 or '84 model year, not '86. There is nothing in that front axle that you want to use, so keep looking.
