Been doing the jeep thing for quite a while, but have never had a bad engine till now. My daily drivers have always been Volvos and Hondas, so I've never seen the inside of one of those engines.
Okay. Damn 258 sounds horrible. Rod Knock? Crank bearing? Dunno. Oil pressure according to a mechanical gauge starts at 40 psi idle and drops to 30 psi idle when hot. Sounds okay to me. Engine sounds like crap at idle, but runs decently otherwise.
Any usual culprits? What about that plug under neath the timing cover. Supposedly if that's left out, you'll still have oil pressure, but a couple cylinders won't be getting oil like they should. How likely is that?
