recently my 79 f-150 has developed a serious problem. it will start and run until it gets warm and then it loses spark and absolutely refuses to start. so far i've replaced the ignition module, the coil, the voltage regulator, the plugs, and wires. where do i go from here?

Fuel Spark and Air...

How's your fuel pump/lines?

fuel pump is ok. i checked first to see if it was vapor locking but i have plenty of fuel just no spark. don't know why.

Engine grounded? Check how much resistance from your negative terminal to a remote spot on your motor. Could be not a good enough ground is causing things to heat up somewhere. Just a guess, you've got a tough one there.

checked out the grounding on my p.o.s. last night. coulnd't find a ground strap between the body and motor. i'm gonna try putting one on today and see if that makes a difference. if not i'm geeting my hammer out. it seems like the coil is heating up too much. it's getting hot enough to burn my hands when i grab it. this p.o.s. is definitely starting to:mad3: me off.

I feel ya. I have fuel injection and therefore grounds are very important. I have a ground going from the battery to the motor mount, from the frame to the motor mount (and therefore the battery) and from the body to the battery. Good luck!

It sounds like you might have a short there... you check the ohm's going to the coil??

Another thing you could try would be to start it up at night in a dark area and look around when it's running to try and find some sparks from your short. Also check all the wires around the remote starter solenoid and the wires to/from your voltage regulator. The voltage reg. should also be getting damn hot if you have a short going on. Isn't electrical fun!! it's all a big mystery to me,
oh yeah, also check your fusible link and any fuses that might be involved with ignition, some may be loose.

i checked everything out. cleaned up a few grounds. well it started up and ran fine for about 20 minutes and shut down again. tried the idea of firing my truck up at night. no shorts. so i pulled the distributor cap off again. checked the stator and it was hot enough it blistered my fingers. so i'm gonna pull the distributor and replace the stator. it's about the only thing i haven't replaced yet. all the fuses are good. all the wires are good. the voltage regulator is staying cool. so what the @#$% it's only 20 bucks here for a new stator. the only good thing about my truck is the parts are relatively cheap around here. i keep plugging away at it and i'll keep all ya posted.
