So who's planning on going to Australia no matter what?

Starting to look at airfare and places to stay. Evidently they are running the Aussie PUSU the week after Worlds.

The only thing on my 'must' list is checking out Fraser Island. That, and picking up another first place trophy:flipoff2:

We're figuring out how we're going to make it if we don't qualify...it's a good hit budgetwise but we want to defend our Aussie title against the Aussies now that they've had some time to practice!

We're planning on doing whatever it takes to get there. We'll be staying for the Aussie PUSU as well. I really just want to box a Kangaroo:laughing:

It is on our schedule but it depends how things shake out and the almighty dollar. I would be good for one event and then skeedadle north to Kakadu NP and the reef. Of course, someone would likely frown on 1 year olds diving....

Isn't Fraser Island off the East coast? I used to own a 1978 Land Rover that lives there now.

Out of sick curiosity, has anyone priced out the round trip shipping for a rig yet? Airfair is the easy part, it is the rig that is scaring me a little!

W.E.Rock is taking care of the team vehicles that qualify, as for those that want to go, but did not qualify, a cargo container is about $8500 for the round trip, the last time we checked.

How big of a container? 40?

Big Rich

Yes, 40'

Our goal is to collect the cars right after sema, so we can prep them and amke the racks for the containers so we can squeeze as many into one container as possible.

We will ship the containers from the west coast, we need to plan on 6 weeks one way for shipping. So they need to go by the first week in December. The vehicles will arrive at sam's place, get unloaded and race preped. After the event we will get them back to Sam's to prep them for shipping and get them out again asap so we can have tham back in time for easter jeep safari. The W.E.ROCk season for 2008 will start after easter.

At least this is the plan for now. We are working on some other approches, but this is it for now.....

Fly cheap abroad has flights from LAX on Air Tahiti for $1,409. I am going to try to book within the next few weeks. Remember visas can not be applied for until November. That will be $200 from the Aussie embassy in Washington DC.

We are looking into booking over 100 seats to try and get a good discount for all of those wanting to go...Please wait to book your flights until we have exhausted this plan

Visas?

Because we are techinically working? Would I need a visa as a tourist?

Wait. $8500 per vehicle or for a container full? I thought it was each.

Per container... 4-5 rigs per container, depending on class

We hope to get away with only 3 containers

You have to use them within three months.

You have to use them within three months.

Read it again, you can use them for up to a year. With no stay lasting longer than 3 months. And they don't cost $200. They are free if you go through your airline. $20 if you process it online.

Shit i need to get on here more. Havent been here and looked around for a few months.

Dave we all came over to Vegas last year on a holiday. Didnt apply for a Visa at all. But then again we weren't expecting to win anything either :D

Your also going to Struggle to fit Fraser Island inbetween the Worlds and PUOSU. I would look at staying the week after PUOSU and head to Fraser. Your still more than welcome at my house when we get back from Worlds so Accomodation shouldnt be an issue. If your booking tickets its prob best to book them to fly into Sydney but fly back out of Brisbane. Which may mean a short flight from Bris-Syd on the return.

The worlds are closer to Sydney. PUOSU is closer to Brisbane. There is about a 8HR drive north from Worlds to PUOSU.

We are all getting pretty excited.

Pretty sure that as of this month there is a full page add going into our largest 4wd magazine which will be published each month up till the worlds.

I am sure Sam will update you all.

So whos coming from over there, i hear Tracey is coming back over along with some mates.

Unless you incurred 2 or more speeding offences on your last visit. The Australia government has cracked down on tourist (especially USA citizens, and especially residents from Arizona) coming over here and racking up heaps of speeding fines the pissing off home and not paying them. :D

I have not heard anything yet, but how many teams from each class will be getting sent over here or what is the selection process for your teams???

I believe the qualifyers in stock, super-mod, and pro-mod are:

Winners of the 2006 Worlds
Winners of 2007 West Series
Winners of 2007 East Series
1st & 2nd from the 2007 Grand Nationals

Were qualifyed and pumped up about this awesome adventure. Is there any more info like event location, what to expect, how the vehicles will be transported from Sydney, etc?

I just talked to Sam the other day. He said that the event probably isn't going to be in Singleton this time. It's going to be in Sydney on a man made course.

If I qualify for the rig to get taken, I plan on coming for an extended vacation. I am hoping to do some Ausi wheeling after the comp. Hopefully there will be at least one Stock Class Jeep from the states attending.

Gunning for a win at Nationals,
