Couple clarifications. :p

CRAWL RATIO:
BASE VEHICLE: 45.0:1
WITH OPTIONAL OFF-ROAD SUSPENSION PACKAGE: 68.9:1

That's with the manual tranny. With the auto tranny and adv. package I believe the crawl ratio is around 58:1.

WHEELS & TIRES
16 x7.5 in. aluminum wheels, 32 in. P256 / 75R16 all-terrain
tires with full-size spare tire

Those are the base model "sissy" tires. :flipoff2:
The adv. package comes with P285/75R16 Bridgestone Dueler AT's. (Still sissy, but better.)

I know I've seen this before and I'd almost be willing to bet you're the one that posted it..

Do you have the full specs on the diffs..?? Gearing details and all that.. I'm kinda pecking around at gearing down to deal with the 35's better..

IF they exist, would 4:88 be worth the replacement costs..??

And I'm still determined a mechanical locker like a Detroit or a Powertrax has got to be an economical alternative to an E-Locker.. Life may prove me wrong and the thing may blow on me the first time around the block.. But I tend not to push the truck as hard as some folks I know.. :p

Silly goose, it's the pdf from Hummer.com

4:88's may exist for an AAM 7.25, but I searched all the big shops and no one has any. I'm pretty sure the 4:88 would disintegrate in a 7.25" ring gear. Just too small, the teeth would be more like a teef brush.

There is a 4:56 "thick cut" ring gear I'd like to know more about. That might help, along with the new CI Front housing, it might last me more that a couple of trips to Moab.

Me too.

I'm looking for an 8 inch ring and pinion for the new CI axle housing from the Alpha. The Alpha will have the 8 inch ring gear with 4.10:1.

I want the same size ring and pinion in a 4.56:1. So far I can't find one anywhere. The alternative for now (while still under warranty) is to leave the 7.25 (7.28) - 4.56:1 in place with the new housing.

The new CI axle will also have the new drive (prop) shaft, that is reported to be 30% stronger. I've already wrecked two of the stock ones, so this would be a welcome addition.

Where did you hear that the new CI is going to be an AAM 8"

I've been asking myself that also.

HXC I think. I'm searching to find out where I read that.

I'm pretty sure the first year Alpha will have the CI front housing, but it will still be an AAM 7.25.

I think they just revived the old housing they used to use in the S-10, that they disco'd in '03.

Twas on Elcova. F5 originally posted that the new CI diff would be larger, then retracted.

Like Beebs said, I think the '08 is getting the 7.25 still, just in CI.

Cool Sewie,

I started looking for the gears and couldn't find anything or any application for an 8" GM ring gear in IFS.

It did get me thinking about swapping in an 8.25 from a Tahoe or a Yukon, that already has an e-locker available. But for what that would cost, you would already be a long way toward the price of a SFA.

My boss is off driving the H3 Alpha with the Vortec V8 right now... they had a media press release and ride.. then off to the plant they are being built at.

I really dont know much more than that. He did say " They got the H3 right this time, its sa-weet" Im assuming the engine makes all the difference in the world :smokin: I want my wife to by one !!

I heard my name being mentioned:laughing:
Did I say it would have a 8"? I was told one time it might have a larger front, but from everything I have seen it is the same size as the aluminum. Just a cast iron housing.
I had one on the hoist the other day, I guess next time, I should verify, but been playing around with a H2 the past few days.

Shall I say the V8 does give more pickup, course I said that six months ago. However, unless I was towing, I'm not sure if I would pay the extra for the engine.
Still peed at Hummer for doing away with Desert Orange Metallic, and replacing it with Solar Flare Metallic.

But like I said, you retracted it later in that thread. Maybe you were just looking into the future. ;)

No 8"..?? Great.. So much for 4:88s...

Should be more than a few full size 4x GM trucks with IFS around that could be raped for a IFS to play with and see how much would be involved with making something bigger work up front.. Of course until the warranties are out, it may not be worth the damage that would be done, unless you have a skunkworks budget..

I guess if ya really want a H3 turned into a crawler, you need to set the body down on a buggy frame...
