: Project Spidertrax
hendrik 06-01-2007, 01:08 PM How we started:
http://us2.pixagogo.com/S5yfZ0qxqd1GQxkvuKw!vrQ83fpRWAScdsFCHWDnaT2rEglwe6 s8QeYLYSSlFBfND4z0MNahSS5ikA-zVGDjbrxg8QWwiTaspFJybWkcl81kc_/DSC_0263.JPG
We started with an ex MOD defender 90 2.5 N/A Diesel which is replaced by a 3.9 V8 with auto gearbox (ZF4HP22) and 1.6 LT230 transferbox.
First we ended up with:

Because we were not 100% satisfied with the result (competitors are all at a very high level these days) we decided together with Dieter Duytschaever from D&G 4x4 Tuning to change the truck completely!

4 link at the rear (on the picture mounted underneath the chassis but now mounted at the side, to keep everything clear at the bottom!):

Central winch? details?
Thanks!
Yep central winch, which comes out just behind the roof to be able to secure the truck on slide slopes, and if necessary use it to the front or rear as "extra" winch.
Front and Rear will be 8274, and next to these there will be (if everything come together) an extra PTO driven H14 superwinch for the heavy mud or the fast hill climbs...
Total weight of the truck will be around 2000 kg (if the calculations were correct)
Steel 52 in diameter 48mm for the cage if I'm correct
ABrooks 06-01-2007, 01:47 PM I think I just achieved.
mongosd2 06-01-2007, 02:14 PM fawking SWEET!!!!I think the only thing i would have done differently would be to have trussed the top of the rear axle for the 4 link mounts...
Sweet Rig!

Good to put the pictures here also, instead of only LROC en B4x4.
You might get better tech info here.

Yes, it's beautiful. Top notch craftsmanship. Great fab work. Nice engineering.
It just seems a shame to chop a Defender, regardless of the results.
If you're gonna build a truggy, why kill one of these?
Couldn't you have started with an S10 Blazer or Bronco II with pretty much the same results?

Did the monkey touching and modern dance references not suggest a provenance somewhat farther afield than Peoria? Defenders, while not exactly a dime a dozen, are substantially more common in Belgium than Blazers or Broncos:shaking:

Yea, didin't notice that. I guess there are a plethora of these out by you.
As hard as they are to find here, it still hurts a little bit to see, though.
Like I said, however, beautiful job on it.

In post #6 the closeup of your bends show welds on each side of the bend like you welded in pre-bent portions. So I am curious if you used poop pipe or DOM or HREW.

Yet if you look at post #7, the same bends do not appear to have the ground welds and appear to be a continuous piece of tubing.
The instrument panel is so sexy, it should have a 35% warning:flipoff2:. I hope AFI's looks half as nice.

Looks to me like there are pre bent parts in a number of places. And the rear supports would be much stronger if they were straight pipe and connected with the tube coming up from the frame at the very rear. Parts of the cage scare me. Other than that, it's a real beauty!

I can see them in post 7 too. Definently welded in bends. Not sure why yet.
