OK, i know i don't know any of you guys personally but i have aquired a lot of info from all the posts. I am having a helluva time finding a pass. side d60 front. I can't afford more than $900 and all that i've seen go for more than $1000. The problem is i need it now. Someone out there has to have a connection or a friend or someone they can pull some strings for me. Gotta get my rig back in opporatin for the Fun In The Desert run in OCT. And as it looks now that won't be happnin unless someone hooks me up. I have nothing to trade except maybe my ff14 bolt. It has 4.10 and no drums. Will still need to get a 14 bolt but i have a connection to get one for $500 w/ 4.56 and detroit. I know d60 fronts are hard to come by but cmon boys, i could really use some help here.

I didn't post in wanted cause i wanted to appeal to my IH brothas first. Thanks!

Fleckster (http://www.backcountrybinders.com) has a Dana 60 front for sale to finance his Mog axles.

Almost the price you're looking for.

Give him a shout.

Well i emailed him before i knew that. The hub thing hard to fix? I kinda wanted something to just bolt in. Wishfull thinking i know but i know not everyone paid $1000 for their d60 so i was hopin i could appeal to someones understanding side, not profit side. All the boneyards around here are picked over real bad and all i can find a d60 rears. Thanks for the help, anyone else?????

*shrug* I missed the part about missing the hubs.

Brawler - it seems you either wait a long time for the right deal at the right price, or you PAY for the convenience of having one "Right Now"..

I passed on a D60F at a junkyard a week ago.. wanted $100 for a housing with 4.10 gears, one bent tube, and a pair of knuckles. Nothing else. No spindles, calipers, hubs, rotors, axle shafts, caliper brackets.. just a bent housing, 4.10 gears, and knuckles.

Brawler...If you happen to find a front 60 at a wrecker...buy it and then a lottery ticket on the way home...:D

Actually, PM RICKB from this board...see if he can help you. He is always finding D60's and then sells them on this board. He is the person that I bought my 60 from...he sold a set to me for $1000 shipped:eek: mine was a RC60 front and a worthless 30 spline rear that I sold about a month after I got it...So, with shipping, my front 60 only cost me $825...maybe he has a Dodge or Chevy one that he will sell cheaper. Make sure that you get an internal spline hub version if you buy a Dodge one!

I know you want a 60, but how about a built 44?

Find a 44 from a 3/4 ton rig, it'll have the thick tubes. $200.00
Custom Alloy axles $400.00
CTM's $300.00
Lock it up $500.00

Hmm, still expensive, but less then you'll spend on building a 60.

Think so? I was looking at what it would take to complete the 60.. after I retube it.

Sure, I could probably sell the knuckles and 4.10 gears on Ebay and get my $100 back but.. I dunno.

What do you think a Jeeper would pay for a bare housing that needs the long side shortened (bend was between the spring perch and knuckle on the long side)

I can always go back.. I bet it'll still be there next year. :D

Reminds me of some of vids I watched in High School Auto Shop
  I'll make a copy and get it back over to you. Good info on what to look for on inspection.

I may be getting the Dana 300 for sale with the 4:1 kit to stick behind my 727. Should be a  setup for the July run up to the Con. You going to have your rig ready for the July trip?

Brawler,
If it get's down to the wire, I can always hook you up with a closed knuckle 60 w/5.86 gears and no drums, really cheap, pretty close to Ventura too.
If you're interested, do some research to see what it would take to cut off the knuckles and replace them with open outers or you can even call surplus city to see how much drums are.

I wanna see you at FITD in October

Well i was thinking about that but i am going to run 39.5 tsl's i bought from adam ant. Thanks joe, i'll see what is involved unless anyone here wants to give up the info. Why is a closed knuckle d60 not a good choice. They use the same axles don't they?

itty bitty steering joints, and probably coarse splined shafts, probably be better off with a 44.

Find a chevy 44 for cheap, get your rig setup for it, then when you find a 60 in your price range you will be ready to bolt it in.

I went the opposite way, I found the 60 front first, then decided to go full width, I've had to put everything together slowly, since just because you have a 60 front sitting in your yard doesn't mean you have the money for everything else. But now I have no choice seeing I pulled the rear axle and sold it this past weekend. I've gathered most of the parts for the swap and gears, but I still have to come up with funds for tires and wheels.

You might check with gunracer1, he has a couple of 60's, I don't know if he will part with them or not, but he would definately set you up with some rockwells.

Thought about rockwells too but how do you fit them to 15x10 8 lug wheels w/ 3" backspacing? My guess is that i'll be having more problems than it's worth.

When I found my 60 front. Thought it was a Ford 60 as I didnt really take all that much attention to it. I had aready been getting parts together for fullwidth. So I bought it for $125, lugged it home & on the way home noticed it said in white paint "chevy 60" . Thats when I took notice. I was just gonna have it retubed for the rear axle. Just keep looking. The guy i bought it from insisted he had NOOO truck axles in his yard, when there were about 7 of them.

Hmm.. I wonder if that'd make my crewcab turn any better or worse than it does with the '74 IFS coil front suspension that's on it now? :D

Brawler have you checked on Ebay. Dodge 60's go for as low as 650. Chevys more, and the HP Fords start at about 850.

I don't know what to look for on the dodge d60. How compatable are they? I thought they had some wierd vaccuum thing going on.

That's late model Dodges with the wrong (Drivers) side drop...older Dodges and Chevy's are almost the exact same except for the Studs vs bolts for the pass side spring plate. Some Dodges came with external bolt hubs..try to avoid these and get the internal ones. Everything else on the Dodge front would work just fine.

The Dodges also have a 1" wider spring spacing (33"). Chevy is 32"

So you may have to outboard your springs a little to use the Dodge front end. Looks like a Chevy front 60 is your best bet. I think Aggro has a few front 60's too.

Perry,
This guy lives in North San Diego, he parts out Dodge Diesels on the TDR
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1832144998

This is the 60 front your looking for, I'm running this same setup on my Dodge Diesel. Like SD said, this 60 looks almost identical to the chevy d60 that came with my mili 60/14 combo.

This dodge 60 has the the internal splined hubs. Make the guy an offer on just the front, tell him he can keep the gears.
