so, long story short. i've got a 92 rodeo with a 3.1, 5 speed, and 4x4. it runs good but has no bells or whistles. but my dad, needing some parts, picked up a 91 2wd with a 3.1 and an auto for $250. it doesnt run, and the tranny is shot. but the exterior is cherry, and it has all the bells and whistles. this thing is too nice to use for what he wants it for, which is the wiring harness among other parts (he is doing a amigo/k5 hybrid). anyways, it looks like we are going to trade and he is going to tear up my current rodeo, and i will get this much nicer one (that needs more work).

anyways, this motor will at least need new bearings, seals, rings, and gaskets. but i am thinking that i may want to step up to a 3.4 while i am at it. to those that have done it, what all would i need? first, do i want a FWD or RWD block? and i assume my heads and all that will work. i also have a complete 4.3 TBI that i can rob the injectors, or the whole thing to put on it. i would put a mild cam in it, if the ECM could handle it. and maybe headers. i will also be putting the 5 speed from my rodeo in this, and somewhere down the line doing a sas on it.

also, i just read a little part of a thread mentioning putting a sm420/205 using a s10 bellhousing. anybody know more info on this? i love the feeling of an old 4 speed, though i would prefer a 465.

3.4 swap, you will want a v6 motor out of a 94ish Camaro or Firebird. You will have drill and tap the block for the starter, if you used the stock tranny.

I bored out the intake manifold and used a 4.3 TBI, had to drill a new hole for the throttle linkage. I can't help you with a cam decision. I used Competion Cams 1.6 roller rocker arms, for better breathing.

There is a lot of info on the 3.4 swap on the 4x4wire Isuzu forums.
