: Fordyce-Harder then the rubi?
PizzaFarno 06-04-2007, 12:59 PM hey
i was wondering if fordyce was truely harder then the rubicon, because the pictures look like so. Im a little scared when i go on the sierra trek this year.
my jeep can make the rubicon pretty easily. Would it be able to make it w/o breaking things? heres a quik rundown
cj-7, model 20 1 pieced detroit locked, dana 30 cromo shafts w/ 44 outers and lockright locked. Spring under  -has no ubold flip kit on so there is horrible clearence. dana 300 6:1 and bla bla bla-one last thing it has 35's and 5.5 lift
ANTHONYFARLEY 06-04-2007, 01:12 PM Your Rig Sounds Very Capable To Me! I Dont Know Your Wheelin Exp. Is But If You Say You Have Made It Tro The Con Easily Then You Will Be Fine I Have Seen Guys Take A Stock Toyota Tro Just Cut Fenders And Big Tires It Has A Lot To Do With Driver Skills! Relax And Youll Be Fine Its A Great Trail!
Tinman 06-04-2007, 01:33 PM Don't even worry about it. During Trek the trail is so stacked you can practically drive a Civic up it.:D
PizzaFarno 06-04-2007, 02:03 PM thanks for the comments guys and for the reassurance to go.
patfo 06-04-2007, 02:41 PM Don't even worry about it. During Trek the trail is so stacked you can practically drive a Civic up it.:D
Plus you have people stationed at all the winch hills to pull you up. You'll never be alone so plenty of help should a problem arise.
You'll have a great time.
mountainhead 06-07-2007, 09:12 AM It is just as much fun as then con, a little less crowded (except for sierra trek). If you can do the con then you can do fordyce creek. The only big diffrence (IMHO) is there are no real bypass routes. Don't be intimidated, Sierra Trek is the time to do it for the first time. You will have a blast!
WHITE RHINO 06-07-2007, 02:30 PM i would say its definitely harder
Clifcattankass 06-08-2007, 11:34 AM its a cake walk, but the nice thing is you can make it as hard as you want
olivesta500 06-08-2007, 02:56 PM dana 300 6:1
got any details on those 6:1 gears?
colonelmustard 06-08-2007, 04:35 PM imho its much harder. This is because the rocks are looser and move around more (wheel spin- catch traction- KAAAAPOWWWW!) and the deep water crossing (not a factor during the Trek). But definately not as crowded as the 'con, which is a HUGE plus.
BLK Scout 800 06-09-2007, 04:00 PM got any details on those 6:1 gears?

I'm guessing it should read "dana 300, 6:1" meaning 6:1 trans ;)
fordori 06-13-2007, 01:13 PM rubicon is harder if you dont go around the hard spots. serria trek has its spots but you can go around most of them to.:D
toy4crawlin 06-14-2007, 04:48 PM to Anwser your question,
Yes Fordyce is more technical than Rubicon.
More fun and challenging hills.
Sierra trek was a bit disapointing for me last year
It's crazy to drive 1.5 hours past the trail head to camp, then get up at 3am to drive 1.5 hours back to trails head for a 6am meet.
There were some fun spots,(river crossings) and I saw a lot of breakage, I had to winch a Defender 90 out of the creek because he broke his rear:laughing:
It was a cake walk for me though, never had to back up ot try a different route
Front Arb, used sometimes on the winchhills
Rear locker
Dual Case 90:1 and 206:1
worn 36's TSL's
NO ProblemO

YEA ! :shaking: that's what I said when I finnaly made it into camp at 9pm:eek:
hard to find a decent camp site in the Dark!
For that reason I will not be doing that Trip again !
Hope your not convertible, It's COLD @ 3am
I heard some people camp at trail head but then all your camp gear is in your rig.
Trail head start 6:30am
back to camp 3pm
Once you start you'll Have fun

Yes it is harder. If you ran it at Sierra trek (ankle high water), I think you need to run it when the real boys go play. I am talking about full on flow, 4-5 feet of water. Ask chopperman he has cruised by me when I was changing my headgasket.

Ya you have your camping gear. What is the difrence between that and going up any other weekend. It is nice not having lots of gear but it is not bad.

A lot said there ! :p
I missed the High water flow @ Sierra trek. the event was A lot easier than a regular group run I did years back. I think I missed some technical spots too, that's why I came back.
I had 4 of us in my 4runner, so there was not enough space for all our gear and the 2 girls. :D
Would like to run again for sure but with a small group of expeirenced drivers.
I'm getting tired of trails made easier for all and Jeeps, (aka Gate keeper at Rubicon is Gone Now ! :barf:
Trail tested My ASS!:flipoff2:jeep:barf:
OOP'S 06-17-2007, 07:47 PM You mean like this? 4-dice is a harder trail the the Con even at the Trek. The biggest reason is the trail is not groomed like the do for the J.J. on the Con.

Fordyce is extremely “groomed” during Trek.
OOP'S 06-17-2007, 11:24 PM Fordyce is extremely “groomed” during Trek. Not any time I have worked on the committee, which has been the last seven years. You do not know what "groomed" is until you run theCon after a J.J.
Brandon 06-18-2007, 10:03 AM In my opinion if your not geared low Fordyce is harder, if you are it is easier. More small rocks, and rubicon seems to have more open spaces. I was geared before going on fordyce so it has never seemed hard to me, not even any of the "winch" hills or the so called waterfall thing next to the narrow spot - whatever it is called.

Maybe groomed is not the correct word. Paved? The winch hills are "paved" :D This is in the last 4 years on committee...not sure before that. The point is PizzaFarno should have no problem and have a great time.
doublemfilms 06-18-2007, 11:20 AM The trail has harder spots on it than the Con but the trail itself is not overwhelming. They call the hard spots out there winch hills and some are pretty damn hard. Overall the trail is amazing and the scenery is second to none.
The river crossing is pretty crazy but i have seen stock jeeps and sami's go through itl.
Want to see footage of 4Dyce??? Our DVD, Honkies has a whole 4Dyce section and shows all kinds of river crossing, from 44's underwater to Samis making the same crossing.

Brandon 06-18-2007, 03:25 PM pics are decieving, you CAN make the trail very hard.. but you don't have to..
JDunn 06-18-2007, 04:58 PM If you are full-width have fun at winch hill 3.;) It is getting deeper and harder. I was there on Saturday and got denied by a broken front axle. But I will be back this weekend.:D
PizzaFarno 06-19-2007, 12:11 AM ive seen that alot of people are breaking axles...are you guys just pedal drivers or is it really easy to break? Ive heard of people breaking 60's and stuff. Im just really scarred to break mine, cuz it would be the first time ever since bought in 84'.
JDunn 06-19-2007, 09:34 AM I broke my Chromalloy shaft at Moonrocks doing a front wheel drive burn out going up a ledge (both rear D60 shafts were broke). So it is back for warranty and I had a stock one in. I was going up winch hill 3 and with the help of the skinny pedal it broke. You should be fine if you are drive like you have for the last 23 years it seems to work for you.
Rubicrawler 06-19-2007, 10:04 AM Im just really scarred to break mine, cuz it would be the first time ever since bought in 84'.
PF- you're really worrying over nothing. The last thing the Winch Hill Crews want is for you to break. They'll do everything necessary to make sure you breeze through ;) If the Rubicon is as easy for you as you say it is, you'll have no problems.
IMO, the toughest spot for you might be WH3. I personally know the guys that work that climb and they're as capable as you will find. They're great guys and they'll take good care of you ;)
That being said, it's always a good idea to carry spares because carnage happens when we least expect it.
Hope you have a great trip!
PizzaFarno 06-19-2007, 01:39 PM thanks for all the responses...ive learned alot more about fordyce!
Keep um coming :massey:

Those guys are a bunch of retards!
Seriously though at trek the guys at the winch hills are very helpful and work their tails off to make sure everyone gets through and has a great time....
We have our work cut out for us this year though.. WH3 continues to get bigger holes every year. Fun stuff :D
Don't forget to stop and get your complimentary mohawk!
microtus 06-20-2007, 06:56 PM Don't forget to stop and get your complimentary mohawk!

Anything to help the cause. If I am not mistaken I think we raised ~$1200 for Cal4wheel with the mohawks at trek last year :D

That's the difference to me, Fordyce has less open space than Rubicon. I think they have about the same amount of challenge -- if users stay on the trail -- but Rubicon spreads that challenge out over a longer distance.
That in and of itself adds challenge, if you are day-tripping all the way through. BTW, I'm not talking in-and-out-to-Spider or shortcut-into-Fordyce. I most enjoy running these trails end-to-end like the orginal travelers did back in the wagon days. YMMV.
Randii
GearMan 06-26-2007, 02:39 PM fordyce is for girls. that trail is so easy. i kept hearing winch hills oh the winch hills. i ran it at night with no headlights and never saw a winch hill.:flipoff2:
Tinman 06-26-2007, 03:27 PM Maybe you took a wrong turn and went up Signal Peak. Try turning on the headlights next time.
