I posted this in general and didn't get a response so I thought I'd check here.

I have found a Dana 70 rear from a 2002 Dodge 2500 (Diesel/manual trans) which totalled and I don't know if it's a 35 spline or not and the salvage yard won't let me take it apart to check.

It has 70 - 2U stamped on one of the webbs.
It has 52069459AJ on one tag.
The other tag has 606707-2 which should be the BOM.
It has 3.54 gear ratio.
It has 3.5" tubes (If this matters)

I have called several manufacturers for lockers/gears and have gotten different answers.

Does it have 35 spline 1.5" shafts or 32 spline 1.41" shafts?

Any help would be appreciated.

from what i understood, the front end is 1.41" 32 spline. And I thought that the rear on a 2500 was a dana 80/70 hybrid, with a dana 80 center, and everything else 70.. but I could be wrong..

From what I know a 2500 diesel manual is a hybrid 80 but an auto 2500 is a straight D70. Don't know what the measurements are on the axles but is you found an auto diesel 2500 that should be the 70 you want.

Yea,

I was looking at new trucks last night and I think the salvage yard is wrong about what it came out of. It looks like all of the V-10 and Diesels with a manual trans have the hybrid 70/80. It looks like the trucks with automatics have the D-70.

autos have the 70 and manuals have the 80--and if I remember correctly the 80 is something of a hybrid--I don't think it has 35 splines---I'll see if I can find out for sure---chris

I dont know if your still looking at the axle but you can go to patooyee.com (www.patooyee.com) for a complete list of Dana components. All you will need is a number off the axle and it should be on my brother's page, tell you what it came out of, what it has, what it is, etc...

I dont know if it is updated to 2002 but I think some of the numbers will still be relevant as far as what your looking at.
