: air shoxs or coilovers
GARY ANDREWS 06-06-2007, 08:47 AM hi i am after some views on which shocks to use i like the look and price of the fox air shocks but have read they are for lighter rigs my truck wieghs about 4900lbs any one used them on this wieght truck and found them ok or should i stay well clear and go coilovers if so what poundage spring would be good cheers gary
Buckon37s 06-06-2007, 09:10 AM I am going to save you a lot of grief and money. Coilovers, no matter what anyone says, coilovers.
m016324 06-06-2007, 09:12 AM depends on what you want. Fox also makes a heavier air shock. yes they will work but there are some draw backs. Search around and see what people say about both. Spring rates are all determined by where the weight is on your truck so the best way to do it is to wiegh your truck or estimate the weight and try it out. Most suppliers of coil-overs will let you return springs and get another weight spring. Hope this helps

Puffdragon 06-06-2007, 09:17 AM I run both air and coil. If you are not into lots of tunning, get coilovers. If you like to tinker around and tune, get coilovers, If you are crazy and can't help but tinker and tune the shit out of your ride, get airshocks.
cptyarderho 06-06-2007, 09:55 AM some punctuation would be super:laughing:
Puffdragon 06-06-2007, 10:59 AM you dont need punctuation when your 16yrs old.

THAT is a perfect answer.
kid4lyf 06-07-2007, 08:54 AM I run Fox AirShox on my XJ and I would go coilovers if doing it again.
The Airs are very soft and flexy. They work great in rocks but get ugly in either off camber or higher speed situations. Anti-sway bars, like the anti-roc, are essential with them.
I'm completely thrilled with them now but it took a lot of work to get to this point.
I think coilovers would have been a far easier course.
mongosd2 06-07-2007, 09:32 AM I also would recommend long travel sway bars with coil-overs...I'm using 14" coil-overs on my swap, and put them in Don's D2 and it's just has way to much body roll with out swaybar's on the road...
revor 06-07-2007, 03:46 PM some punctuation would be super:laughing:
You have to admit that even without punctuation he reads well.. But he has forgotten that old 'I' after 'E' thing. Or perhaps how to use spell check.:shaking:
Get Coilovers.

Sway bars are for pussies. :flipoff2: Try adjusting the spring rate and spring stop.
edit: And Gary, your too heavy even for the 2.5's in the front, regardless what anybody says.

They are actually pretty good for the price. But, they only have 3in available which is not only overkill for you but also will make them hard to fit. If you want the best price to quality, I would recomment SAW coilovers and Fox a close second.

Don't listen to him... His truck is yellow..
Run dog 06-08-2007, 11:46 PM Save yourself time and money (in long run) by the coil overs:smokin:As stated previously, yes the FOX 2.5's air shock would work. However, you are screwed if one of the seals break:shaking: Coilovers are insurance for a trail rig and do not heat up or have a tendancy to unload. I have a 90 RRC on Fox Coilovers in rear with Fox Air bump stops and Rock Equipment Air/Coilovers up front, Rear buggy sway bars and center limiting strap on rear to prevent unloading. I am pretty happy with set-up so far. Good luck
