Who's done it, what drivetrain combo (motor/trannie/t-case/r&p gears) and would you do it again?

Suzuki did it.

It's called a Sidekick.

Thanks for pointing that out Bob. :flipoff2: :D I should have said Samurai specifically.

I also meant to ask for tire size info as well.

Hell, I expected a lot more abuse than that!
I have heard rumors (and they're only rumors as far as I can tell) that there will soon be an IFS "upgrade" solution, that will make the Sidekick as strong as any SAS/Toy axle Sami. We shall see. I'm getting six inches of lift on my 'Kick this week, but I'll still be running standard 27 inch tires until I can save up the bucks for:

15X7 rims with 2.5" of backspacing
SuperSwamper 32 X 9.50 tires
5.83 R & P's
A Nordskog Digital Speedo, so I know how fast I'm REALLY going.

I'm sure that once I've got that (and a mess of belly armor) in, I'm gonna want to put in the rockcrawler Tcase gears, but that's another grand...

......Will not get out of it's own way in 2WD-High. The 3.9:1 first gear in the toy 5 speed is not nearly low enough.

Crawl ratio would be about 97:1 - still pretty fast for 35's.

For comparison:

Samurai 5 spd. + sumo + 5.29's + 35's would pull off fine on the street (3.652 x ~1.7 x 5.29 = 32.8:1)

But a Toyota 5 speed + toy t-case + 35's would only have ~20:1 to get going. One option would be using the first gear out of a turbo 4 cyl. tranny, but it is only margionally better and Very hard to get = pricey. IMHO there is not enough additional power from a 1.6L to make up for the lack of gearing - you would have to run dual t-cases (with one in low) and run 4.1:1 in the R&P's.

Either that, or just go ahead and run the Toyota engine & be done with it.;)

Maby he ment a Toy 1.6L? I am running a 4age Toyota 1600 Twin Cam in mine to a Toy car 4-speed Auto custom adapted to a Toy T-case, 5.71 gears and 35" Boggers. The problem I ran into is the auto tourque converter lockes up at 1500rpm. When I ran the car T50 5-speed it worked fine. The engine is awsome! Stock 130hp and with pair of cams header and some other mods on the intake..... Much better than the Suzuki 1.6L in my opinion. And it only weighs 165lbs with a cast iron block. The engine was orignally designed for The Formula Atlantic 1600 Series and ran a dry sump oiling system. With a few mods to the engine they put it into the MR2 and Corolla GTS. I have 2 of the GTS engines with trannys. Great for a Suzuki Swap. General dimentions are abought the same as the Suzuki 1300 Twin Cam. I like the 4age but it doesnt make enugh power to run the auto and im my old age I really want an auto this time. ;) So I am going with a 4.3L/Th350/Toy case.

I do feel that the Auto would work great in a more tame lift (31-33's) but that is not an option for me. :rasta:
