:shaking: I have a 85 GMC 1/2 ton short box. I think i blew something in my front diff this weekend. I heard a band when putting my foot to the floor when i was stuck bumper to bumper while running the winch. Neither of the front tires would spin in forward after the bang but in reverse the front right would spin. I don't think this is good:( Do you have any suggestions, i have a spare front diff in parts minus the ring gear. Thanks for the help guys....Greg

sounds like you spider gears are toast. those 10bolts are way f*cking weak. go on ebay and look up chevy dana 60 front axles. a couple on there for 600 bucks. that'll be cheaper than fixing your broken stuff.

Could be a lot of things you need to do some more inspections. Could have been a hub/s, axle or stub shaft, ujoint, pinion gear, spider gears, tcase not fully engaged in 4wd, etc.
Pull the cover off and look, or jack up the front and see what spins by hand with tcase in N.
Good luck

Hey thanks alot guys for the tips. I pulled the front cover off and couldn't see anything broken. I jacked the front end up and turned the front wheels with the hubs locked in. The oposite hub was spripped on the forward side of the gears. I changed the hub and it works fine. Greg
