has anyone one done this yet? I searched google and here and aint found shit. So has anyone slid a solid axle under the front of one ?(other than the few HUGE show trucks I have seen) Or has everyone just been keep beefing up the IFS ?
just wondering as it seems like a prime candidate for one and a prime market for a company to offer one for.

has anyone over there done a SAS? If not WHY direct traffic towards that site if it hasn't been done?

:shaking:

IMO - a SAS H2 wouldn't be worth it...the H3 on the other hand would be the fucking shit...

at LEAST they tend to have a better ground clearance and a lower COG

When I had my H3 (for the short time I had it), I spent a little time around the front end: A SAS looked pretty challenging given the frame rail design in the front. Besides, the 3.5L 5 cylinder is a turd. The new 08 H3 Alpha with the 5.3L, that would be a fun vehicle, and if you SAS'd it, you do away with the tierod issues the IFS setup have... I suspect that it would have to be either a really tall beast or major chassis work to SAS a H3.

There was an H3 done by Bully Dog and Mount Logan Offroad. D60 front/rear. 4 link front. Duramax conversion. Hydro assist.

If anyone in Colorado needs a “test” H2 to develop a SAS PM me. It’s not a DD (i.e. you could keep it for a few weeks) and would get wheeled afterwards :D

You think they would let me test drive it on the Rubicon???

I doubt that exhaust system would last very long on the Rubicon ;)

This coming from the guy who drove a Liberty... pffft! :flipoff2:

Actually it looks pretty damn well done. I'd really like to see more of the front end work. I see they put an Atlas case in place of the stocker. Wonder what else they did.

Yep... it was a diesel, pink Liberty...:rainbow: :flipoff2: Gil

I'd run the heck out of that H3 with SAS and the Diesel motor. I am waiting for them to get cheap enough used then I will build one for giggles. My wife needs a wheeler that will fit three kids and gear. She's not happy with the long armed LJ.

I also own an Isuzu Amigo and a Grand Waggy, you gonna claim those are any less hardcore as well ?
It was a Diesel Liberty and the reason I got it was the H3 could not tow anywhere close to it or get the same gas mileage :flipoff2: but it got lemoned :(

Now I have a 4 door JK as well, it has a solid axle in the front :flipoff2:

sorry but that Hummer is sweet, right up till you get to the nostril looking hood

So a diesel Liberty gets better than 12 mpg towing 4,500 lbs? Cool. But no less :rainbow:

I don't know if Doc's ever got better then 12mpg towing...his turned out to be a turd which Chrysler ended up buying back. I understand the goal, but the platform was, well :rainbow: :flipoff2:

Now, the H3 with the puny 3.5L (I had one for 5 months :homer:) was definitely underpowered and still is even with the 3.7L. The new Alpha with the 5.3 would be fun, ought to tow quite a bit, still won't be great on gas.

Glad Doc doesn't have my address: no glitter bombs from you!

Not sure about an H3, but a while back I saw an H2 SAS'd on ebay. It looked like the owner did an alright job (except for some booger welds on the shock towers :barf:)

Edit: it looked like it had some rock rash from wheeling, so I don't think it was a show queen.

yes, it did  I think I was getting 17 or 18 on the way down here from MD. It fully fucking rocked for power and MPG but the trans/engine not communicating got old quick :shaking:

If it did not suck ass it was going to get SAS :(

The H3 engine is what turned me away from it and the H2 was too big/money for me.

I have a canyon pickup. Same chassis as the H3, although the lighter weight makes the engine fine ;) It'd be cake to SAS it.

Im getting my ducks in a row to try to do a SAS myself.. I think it would be kinda easy to do a SAS if you run coilovers... The frame rails up front are kinda short and im not sure if leaf springs would be possible... Im trying to figure out if leaf springs are possible because thats the way I want mine setup.... heres a link to a H2 soild axle swap..

PLEASE dont let your H3 come close to resembling that H2. That thing is nothing but a mall cruiser. Dont get me wrong, there is alot of engineering and fabrication in that truck.... but it was all for nothing. Good luck with your H3 SAS swap.

Bad rumor. As of now, there is NO diesel, turbo or otherwise, scheduled for US/Canada in the H3 vehicles. There are reports of the H2 getting the new GM turbo diesel, but from what I have read so far, the year shown is incorrect.:D

so it's been a year any solid axles on an H3 yet?

Bebe
09-09-2008, 12:06 PM
Nope, still the bully dog is the lone SAS H3.

I'm not sure it's really all that necessary. The front end is not as weak as other IFS front ends. I had 80K on mine before it needed half shafts and even at that, only the boots were leaking. And I have never (knock on wood) bent a tie rod. I do need ball joints tho.

Plenty of GC up front, the biggest issue are the F**king RearSpring Hangers.

A rear spring over conversion and a super chop of the hangers is what it next on my list.

The hangers are about 8" from the frame to the hanger bolt....way too long and are always getting in the way. So we are going to chop them off and mount them as close to the frame as possible, add a spring over, new shock mounts, a new set of KM2's, on board air and an aux tranny cooler, and I'll hopefully be done with mods for a while. :D

Well, till ARB finishes up that front locker **coughdancough** :flipoff2:

Dude. You send the guy to the largest bling bling hummer forum on the internet?

He wants to change up the front suspension, not install chrome door handles and spinnin' rims. :shaking:

Theres a few technical h1 forums out there, but for serious H2 mods? I'm not too sure of a spot to go to. Maybe hummerxclub? flashoffroad and humvee.net has good h1 forums but the h2 sections have little traffic.

An euro diesel h3 would be a nice product to have here. H2 isn't getting a diesel, it's a dead duck, they're not even bothering refreshing the H2 design other then a few interior and drivetrain tweaks. AMG/GM already stated the H2 is dead around 2012-2014, but with current lack of sales, the H2 will probably be canned before that.

That used to be the site for H2s and 3s for people who actually wheeled their rigs but it appears anyone with technical knowledge has left the building. Now they are just stuck with blingers it appears(which i would fit in if I didnt put my truck on the trail). Ha, one of the "mods"/"goderators" *cough*kennyboy*cough*no longer owns an H2 but when he did he parked it after slightly bending a heavy duty tie rod in the bunny slopes in Tellico(on trail 5 and it wasnt even on an obstacle)....rediculous.

That being said, whats wrong with chrome door handles??:D

I am considering it more now than ever.

We'll see if it is still worth it after we do the spring over conversion in the rear.
