I am picking up a tranny/transfer case for a project I am starting.
I was originally told it was a Turbo 400 and NP 205.
I just found out it is an NP 208 instead.
Will the 208 adaptor work with either a NP 203 or 205?
The plans are either a doubler or low gears in a 205.
Thanks for the help

Well the easy answer is NO.
But, the 32 spline 203 can be mated to the adapter by redrilling the mounting holes and tapping them to the six round pattern of the 208 adapter. I have seen it done several times.
Option 2. Get a 205 from an 80's up truck that has the 6 round pattern on it. You will have to do some notching on the apater for shift rail clearance, but it too will work.
But like I said earlier, the easy answer is no. You are better off finding a 203 or 205 that has the 400 adapters, but then you will also need to swap the output shaft in the trans to the shorter one.

Thanks for the response
I don't have any problems reworking the adaptor to fit the 203.
I had originally planned to run a doubler on this rig anyway so it may work out in the long run.

even if the adatpor did work, the output shaft might not be the same length i had a th400 that came with a 208 behind it rebuilt in plans of running the 205 behind it that came off another 400 and the output shaft was to short to get through the 205 adaptor which is like a inch thicker, i wish i would have seen that before i got it reubuilt
