OK, I did search and I'm not asking the usual questions. Working on a '64, and putting a SBC400/TH400/NP203 and fullsize axles under it. First question, is it better to mount the engine combo high or low? Right now I have it high as to keep the tranny and transfer case tucked up between the frame rails. But in doing this, there is no way the tunnel cover is going to fit back on. What have you guys done on yours? Question two, drive line angles, mainly the rear. With my combo up high, the rear drive line angle looks like it might give me problems. Thanks for the help, and flame all you want, these are lagit questions:flipoff2:

I assume you are talking about a scout. I think you are better off with your junk riding a little low for better COG and u-joint angles. Build a skid plate for your transfer case.

Keep the tranny and t-case mounts flush with the frame rails...

Cut humps out of your firewall...where the starter/exhaust dumps are...

Burn in the engine mounts...

Mount it low better COG! But you don't want it retarded low just mount it in a comprised position for ground clearance and COG.

My junk (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=563918&page=2)

I mounted it low, but I still had to cut the shit out of the floor. After I get it running and driving I'll worry about the tunnel cover.

If you have the time you can search my name, you'll find all the specs from my sbc swap. Mine was a scout 800 but you'll get the idea :flipoff2:

I sat my mouse in there so that the hood would still close with a 4" filter. I have a 4spd. and had to modify tunnel but you should be fine with your auto. Your combo is going to be pretty long. Are you really set on running that 203?

The 203 is what I have, and it has the MM Part-time kit in it, thats the only reason for running it. It is long, and thats why I was questioning the rear driveline angle. Right now, as it sits, the front balancer is touching the front body mount, and the tailshaft is even with the end of the tranny tunnel. The lowest part of the transfer case is about 1/2" below frame rails. This appears to be an all around good location for the combo, with minimal cutting, and plenty of access around the motor. What is the max driveline angle I can run without ussues? (This is a trail only rig)

I was going to say make sure to install it low enough to close the hood. A buddy of mine wanted to keep his tranny and transfer cases up high and now the hood will not close due to engine being too high. But Im sure you thought of that already. We are eather going to lower his engine down a few inches or just add a cowl hood to clear the air cleaner. I beleave his is also a 64 Scout. He was right in the middle of installing full width 60s, 350/SM465/203/205 in it when he got killed in a car crash. Now its up to myself and his dad to finish it for him. If you have some pics of yours post them up, we need all the insparation to finish this thing. Its very hard just to work on it without him there.

Sorry to hear about your buddy, that sucks. I wanted to go with the four speed as well but was unsure how the linkage was going to work out. I will get some pics up in sunday.

The lower the better (lower center of gravity).

That in mind, (as said above) you want to keep the tranny & tcase close to frame level.

done, and already tore apart. I was fooling myself wanting a full bodied rig. going back to a buggy. and the 454 needs a new crank.
