: Truggy R&P Gears
Medusa 06-04-2002, 01:19 PM In another thread, Orange45 asked what I have been up to with the FJ45 truggy project for the past few weeks. Here is a clue:

Lets see..... 7 teeth on the little gear and 41 teeth on the big gear.... 5.86:1:smokin: With the SM465 and NP203/205 doubler, the crawl ratio will be 153:1:D THe gears are Spicer units.
The front and rear carriers are ARB lockers requiring the carrier bearing shims on the passenger's side to reside outside th e carrier bearings. So, to set these gears up I had to take the time to first build a D60 case spreader. I also built a dial indicator tool to measure the pinion depth. These are shown in the rear case below:

No shit!! Damn dude, my case spreader was a big ass hammer, some smashed fingers, and about 4 hours of "Fawk, fawk fawk fawk....."
AWESOME!!!!!
Medusa 06-04-2002, 05:04 PM That was the way I have done it in the past with open carriers or a spool. In those diffs or a Detroit, the carrier shims are sandwiched between the carrier and the carrier bearing on both sides. With the freaking ARB, the passenger's side shims have to go between the air-activating collar and the housing, outboard of the carrier bearing). A shim pack between the carrier and the housing does not respond well to big hammers, pry bars or my worst screaming. The 4 hours spent building the spreader was worth it.
If anyone ever needs a D60 spreader to set up their own gears, let me know and I will share this one for the cost of shipping.

Gunmetalcruz 12-21-2004, 11:37 AM Jack, tsl's are all grooved. 28 degrees in the garage it was a bitch. Thanks so much for the groover. How are you feeling? The tires freakin rule, thanks for talking me into to it(like that was hard).

See, this here is why I love Cruiser folks. Sometime when you have the opportunity to-be like Jack, and pay some cruiser kharma forward. It always comes back.
Thanks for being cool Medusa!
By the way, nice red x's up in that first post :flipoff2:
Chef
rugburn 12-22-2004, 05:21 AM Jack is about one of the most talented and generous gentlemen wheeling out there.
Even when the shit talking is going on in Little Sluice, he is calm, reserved and doing his own thing.
When the Tumwater starts flowing though...............
watch out for tipping outhouses.
Medusa 12-22-2004, 09:23 AM Man, that original post was a long time ago. I am surprized anyone remembered it, yet alone resurrected it. Thanks again for all the kind words.
Tom, glad the groover worked... I hope you used a new blade. I am recovering from the surgery pretty well. The week flat on my back almost killed me though. I can't do much of anything for the next five weeks -- my wife even confiscated the shop keys to keep me from even touching my junk:crybaby2:
Oh, and outhouse demolition is a serious profession and should only be attempted by professionals :flipoff2:
Gunmetalcruz 12-22-2004, 07:10 PM It took me 4 blades. So I owe you a few. They kept breaking were the screws hold them but it was cold as shit in the garage. :D They work great!
