The drum brake on my Warn 8274 is not catching right, anyone have any suggestions on rebuilding it? Is there a kit? I've never opened up one before.

yeah, I took a look at that article. Doesn't seem to be too much involved to the braking system, so I'm not sure why it wouldn't be working .. the outter ring that the pawl is supposed to engage freely spins either way.. that's not right is it? eheh

I can't even get the outter brake plate off of the shaft, rusted on tight!

1. Do a search

2. Not detailed enough???? Crikey, there are 15 pictures of the brake assembly, and only about 6 parts! Any more detailed and I'd have to come over and do it for you!

3. Call warn, they will fax/e-mail/mail you a nice exploded diagram and parts list

4. Soundls like the bolt holding the brake pawl on is too tight, preventing the spring from holding pawl against the ratchet disc when the motor is disengaged.

5. Use that grease nipple!

6. Hope this helps.

More likely that the brake has jammed dis-enguaged. Mine was like that and it took a ton of hammering to get it apart. Best thing I can tell you is to remove the entire brake assembly from the case and soak it in ATF or liquid wrench for a couple days and hope it decides to come apart.
