: Ditching the windshield frame?

I flopped the rig a while ago and though the window didn't touch the ground, when the sport bar folded, it pulled the window back enough to bust up the entire windshield.

My current plan is to get rid of the windshield frame and mount the speedglass/lexan/or simmilar to the front of the new custom cage with tabs and bolts. I'm in Wa. and as I read the laws, as long as I have working wipers and full front coverage it should still be legal.

Anyone else done this before, pictures, concerns?

only thing that comes to mind is that it may be hard to seal the bottom of it well enough to keep rain from coming in and down into the dash...not that it rains arounf here much:rolleyes:

Haven't done it yet but if I have time to I'm going to do that this weekend. I'm just going to make my windshield easily removable so I don't damage the windshield like you did, gonna use some lexan or something like that and keep the windshield wipers working......If I get around to it I'll take some pics and post them for you....but who knows if I'll get around to doing anything on my own vehicle.

I got a removeable windshield and it works great. Contact Russ Baer at www.baertrax.com. I can get you a pick if you want, just email me.

I'd love a picture, por@achey.net is the email. Is it just a quick way of removing the stock frame?

Sent you the pics, I just took them(nighttime) pretty sure you can tell what has been done.
I removed the windshield this weekend and was very easy to get off( with 2 people) . Also saved my windshied and frame since I layed the jeep on its side the same day.

I'm just curious how the lexan or plexy will hold up to the abrasive action of minerals in the water being drug back and forth bythe wipers?!?? Will a person have to polish out scratches on aregular basis???

don't know what your looking for here but i figured out a way to take the windshield off easy.
i ground off the welded ends of the hinge pin on the windshield bracket and tapped the hinge pin out an replaced it with a long hitch pin with a cotter pin. so when i go wheelin i pull two pins and 2 bolts, the ones on the inside of the jeep, and pull the winshield off. theres a quick connect on the wiper motor wires that you can unplug. this is on a YJ don't know about others

Thanks, for the replies but a removable window frame is not quite what I had in mind. I just wouldn't trust to leave it anywhere when I wheel, plus I'd still like the coverage a window would provide during bad weather wheeling. Guess I'll just try it out and update you guys when it's done.

I hear what you are saying, but wheeling with the glass down is the chit! :D Especially on late fall days in the maine mountains :D
