I did a bunch of work for a customer and he "appreciated" me with a very nice bottle of Tequila (Silver Patron). I'm going Camping in a couple of weeks and will take it along for Margaritas. I'm thinking this deserves better than generic margarita mix. Anyone have a good recipe for margaritas that can be mixed in the woods (I'm no bartender)? What is your favorite camping beverage?:D

My favorite camping beverage is actually a gin and tonic.
BUt for Ritas,
3:2:1 tequila: tripple sec: lime juice
That's all you need for the perfect margarita.

Patron is alright, but there's a lot better tequilas out there. A good margarita is too complicated to make on the trail. I like to use 3 parts tequila, one part Gran Marnier, 2 parts lime, splash of Triple Sec. To mix it up, you can replace the GM with a little bit of good brandy. You can also add a splash of orange juice for a change, but the original recipe I posted is my standard.
A good margarita, one to do a good tequila justice is just too complicated for the trail. For trail 'ritas, just grab a bottle of decent tequila (Jalisco is a pretty good low priced tequila) and a bottle of margarita mix (my favorite is made by El Paso Chile Co).
My suggestion, if you're wanting to use the Patron on the trail, sip it like you would a good bourbon. Most people sip tequila at room temp, but I actually prefer mine chilled a bit. You can use a pinch of lime on the side, but don't over do it. NO SALT!

The recipe CueBall posted isn't bad for a simple margarita. I prefer a bit more lime in mine than that, but that's a good standard. It'd certainly be doable on the trail.
Another option you have is to do a tequila sunrise. I make mine quite a bit stronger than standard, using a 1:1.5 or 1:2 tequila/OJ combo and then a splash of grenadine.

The original and best Margarita is Tequila, Contraeu, and lime juice poured over ice in a tall glass. I like 2 shots tequila, 1 shot Contreau and fill with lime juice. Thats the best there is, simple and easy.
