: 304 to a AX-15 question

will a amc 304 bolt up with no mods to a AX15? need a 5spd in my jeepster and dont wanna spend a fortune on a adapter kit

Not positive, but I think the answer is no.

"As the AX15 was married to the Jeep engines mentioned above, it is OEM compatible with them." It says the AX15 was introduced in 1988, so that would seem to rule out your Jeepster's AMC engine.

However......
The 4.0L (that uses the AX15) has the same bellhouseing bolt pattern as the 4.2, which also has the same bp as the AMC 304/360/401.
So by useing the AX15 bell, i would say yes, you can bolt them up. Spline count is the same (10-spline) as typically used 4.2/304/460/401 clutch components to include 4.0. The internal slave cyl may force you to go with 4.0 clutch parts...dont know. depending on the AX15 shaft, you may be able to convert it over to an external system. The pilot bushing could be an issue also, whether or not you needed a custom bushing or milling down a stock bushing to fit the nose of the shaft.
