i picked up a full width dana 44 to put in the front of my yj until i can find a cheap 60. it is just about completely bolt in, the spring perches are within a quarter inch of where the yj sits, and the ujoint on the yoke is the same size as the yj front shaft joint. what should i upgrade to keep from breaking, i plan to run 36" tires for now, how hard can i beat the axle in stock form before it breaks? i am not too hard on the throttle, i never broke a stock shaft on 33"s or on 31"s with a welded rear, if i run the 44 with the 36" tires, am i going to break a lot? should i upgrade the shaft joints or the ujoints in the front driveshaft, or will i be ok with a moderate throttle on 36"s with all stock parts on the 44?

should be fine, motsly you are going to break inner and outer shafts, buy some heavy duty inners and let it break outters first. stubs are easier to replace

you'll be fine on 36's Ujoints in the front shafts are the normal weak link there...I wouldn't worry about the driveshaft joints unless you get the yoke hung in a tight spot...

I had a buggy with 38's on a cherokee chief 44 up front...Ujoints seemed to the be failure but I was running 4340 shafts...

just wheel it like it is and pick up some spare shafts OR if your budget allows get some alloy shafts as spares and use them when the front Ujoints break...IF they do :D

also early 70's chevy have them. also some older ford d44 have flat tops but they are 5 bolt studs on the knuckle. chevy and older jeep knuckles have the better 6 stud flattop knuckles
