We need to start by inviting a few Rangers out to enforce all the helmet, no passenger, age, safety certificate, and open container rules for running out there.

If they get the hint that it's not the free for all they've been playing at in the past, maybe they won't show again.

I still can't fathom why with almost 200,000 acres out there, they need to run up and down the main road as their sole means of recreation.

Because 98% of the people that go out there have no clue that there is anything else besides the lakebed out there.:shaking:

Just tell them I'm going to be there. That's sure to keep 90% of them away.

You got a deal. Can I get you to sorta stand out by the highway starting about Monday of the week of Thanksgiving and hold up a sign with your name on it?

Years and years ago when I was involved in the Cal 4 wheel EA commitee, I remember a BLM official explaining what impact a family had on the desert for a weekend and went on to use the example of a parent telling children to ride only as far as they could be seen. I thought back to my time as a kid with a trail 70 and my dad telling me the same thing. Later that year I had a chance to go explore the barstow desert via small plane. I could then see first hand what that ranger had said. 500 foot circles in the desert picked clean with a fire pit in the middle.
I like to go boating at Lake Mohave and we have the same problem. Within 2 miles of the marina the PWC are so thick it is almost unsafe, but go a few miles away and there are none.

I doubt manufactures will ever step up and train people on the safe use of the products they sell, but Education is what is needed. balancing the rights of all to recreate is a slippery slope and I just deal with the crowds on holidays knowing that most weekends they will not be there.

I keep threatining to find a better place to camp then that damn lake bed but I have yet to go explore a new camp location.:D

I've been going out to JV for about 25 years now and it never ceases to amuse me that anytime I mention going somewhere else in the area all I get is a blank stare as if anything past the end of the lakebed is the end of the universe. However, when I go out there by myself or with a few other people I know we avoid the lakebed like the plauge.

Hobie, maybe that would be a good time to scout/break new trails in the Soggy Lakebed area. We have found lots of stuff that could be REALLY good, we just always end up out there in the afternoon and dont want to get stuck after dark in a place we dont know too well.

The only time I have camped there, there was NOBODY else on the lakebed, we got full cell coverage, and the lakebed was flat as can be so it was fun to haul ass!!!

Up until last year, I lived maybe 30 minutes away. Used to go out there on weekdays and non holidays times. Place was empty. I have a few pics somewhere of the lake bed completely void of any human form.

If you go past the western entrance traveling east, there is a turn off heading south. Rattlesnack canyon. I know of a few people that have camped back in there.

Like Jeff said, just go a little bit farther down. They'll run out of fuel eventually. :D

I have often thought about a "no wake zone" type area around the lake bed and camp areas. It would help with the loud 3am drive by's, donut spinning and kids on 50's. Not to mention it would probably cut down on the amount of motorcylce riders. I think it would help JV be a lot safer place since the lakebed is by far the most accident prone area at JV.

The problem is that I have no idea how it would be enforced. Especially with the motorcycle crowd.

How to keep people from acting like idiots anytime out there. Let's see, we have been in camp with people drunk in there 4x4 buggies doing donuts on the lakebed, drunk on the trails in their buggies, falling off of Boone road into the ravine in their buggies, up all hours of the night-in their buggies making noise-people driving through random camps looking for people to wheel with all on big 4x4 vehicle event weekends, people pouring gasoline on the trail to light it on fire as they go up---let's see just how stupid has the 4x4 community been out there? kinda stupid huh?

Now, we have been out there many, many times when just other bike and quad riders were out there and guess what-most of them wore helmets, they went to bed early (unlike the 4x4 crowd who comes rolling in off a trail at odark thirty)-we just generally had a great time and it was much more peaceful when the 4x4'ers were not there. So, maybe we should think of how to keep the 4x4's out of there? Or hell, let's just work on getting the place closed to all OHV type stuff....

Frreaking whiny ass people :shaking:

ya when i was there, there was no moon. it was so black that you couldnt see beyond the shawdows of the campfire. and of course when i went to sleeep, in the middle of the night, i heard a loud knock on the trailer and it freaked me out and i just froze in my bed and didnt move.

We found that out the first year I went to the jambo in 2006. We went out wheeling all day Sunday, came back after dark and couldn't find camp. Everyone was gone except for one RV. On the monday we were all alone.

I spend my Thanksgiving out at Gordon's Well and the only way to get any sleep is with ear plugs.
I'd bet ear plugs would work out at JV too!

I quit going to Glamis on Thanksgiving 20 years ago because of the zoo, now it's starting to get like that at all the crawling areas, assholes!

It's all about timing and acceptance...

For example, we went to Glamis last year on the Sunday afternoon of Thanksgiving weekend. We virtually had the place to ourselves for 4 days. We missed the estimated 100K crowd.

As for deliberately going to the Hammers on holiday weekends, ya got to go knowing it's going to be a mess. But then again, you can camp as close or as far away as you want.

But we don't need to call in the rangers! That would be like shooting ourselves in the foot. :shaking:

HA HA, that is what I was thinking. "What is up with these people driving their 4x4s in the middle of the night spinning doughnuts and purposely flipping them over right next to camp". :homer: Then I thought "Cool, lets go watch".

I used to hate the five year old kids that rode right next to my camp all day long, I figured fawk it and just had two kids of my own. All I need is two more years and my kids will be riding next to your camp all day long FAWKERS!!!:flipoff2::flipoff2:

We we kinda the same. We started out with the 4runner and our twin 5 year olds in camp on little battery operated toys. Then all the dirt bikes and quads would wake us up all hours of the night. So, we got dirt bikes for everyone in the family. Two-50cc bikes for the kids, a 125 for me and a 230 for my husband. Then we could part take of all the "fun" activities. Then...I went one step further and got a LOUD assed VW sand rail for the desert roads there. We totally have all levels of "irritants" covered.

But...now we live in KY, so the hammer trips will be far and few.:(

Yeah I am on both sides of this coin the Quad Family and the Wheeler I can go both ways. I been at Anzo Borrego during New Years and it was F'n crazy and during TDS with everyone. I guess you have to have a cold one and chill let the kids go nuts in the lake Beds and the Crazyz on the Rocks.
Why cant we all just get along??

Yeah I ride also (a 2 wheeler) but will never take the bike anywhere on a big holliday. A lot safer to be in the fully caged jeep than on the bike for when all the drunks come out and play!
